Waiting for radiation

I am trying to be patient but it’s wearing thin. I was told last week I would need radiation. I thought here we go let’s get this done and over.

Only to find I will not see the radiation oncologist until 12/22. Merry Christmas! They found a lump 10/2 and it’s been one long scary wait.

Is this the case for everyone?

Hi tigger. Usually they don't want you to start radiation until six weeks after surgery. I had a very easy lumpectomy so I pushed it, but after surgery 10/10 I am still only starting radiation 11/27. I'm finding there's a LOT of waiting involved in breast cancer.

Waiting is one of the very sucky things that goes along with a cancer diagnosis, unfortunately. It's tough.

If you haven't already, let the RO's office know that you'd like to be called in the event of any cancellations. And keep checking with the. Sometimes it helps.

Depending on when you had surgery you'll probably still not start radiation until after Christmas but it does help to know what kind of treatment options you may have and to start organizing your time, etc. In the meantime, baby your skin as much as you can, including the upper back.

    Hang in there!
