Lump on reconstructed breast post nipple/skin sparing mx
I was initially diagonsed three years ago. Went for bilateral nipple/skin sparing mx (no BRCA mutations). Followed by preventativechemo and hormone therapy. Yesterday I felt a lump on my right breast (side where cancer originated) and I'm freaking out! I had grafting in the area and so I'm hopeful it's fat necrosis or oil cyst. Hubby is driving me to meet with the Onc (Onc isn't worried) as I type. So scared. Anyone else in my boat

It is likely from fat grafting, but absolutely request imaging or a biopsy. My MO told me the same thing and the BS said that they were 99% sure it was scar tissue. They were 100% wrong. Thankfully, I insisted on a biopsy because my gut feeling was that it was cancer (and unfortunately, my gut has never yet been wrong). (I also have had several lumps that were NOT cancer, and thankfully my gut was right on those too). Let us know what they say. Hoping all is benign.

Hi ladies, I am new to this site and have been reading the many encouraging post. I thought I was done finding lumps, bumps etc. Since I now completed dbl mx. In 2014 I had a nipplesparing mastectomy on my left breast. About six months ago, I notice my breast was becoming discolored underneath my implant with tiny bumps and would itch occasionally. Two months ago, I began having a dull pain behind my implant and my nipple stayed sore. While I was massaging my nipple, I notice in the areola was a hard lump. I have an appointment to see the PS November 14th which is the first available date. I have been praying for peace and patience and will continue to do so but I'm really anxious! I'm massaging in case it's scar tissue but can't do anything about the dull pain behind the implant. My husband thinks I should stop massaging until I see the doctor. Any thoughts or suggestions. Thank you

Nonnie56 so sorry you have to wait. Can you get in to see the nurse before November? Or get on a cancellation list? I found a lump on my reconstructed breast and they literally got me an appointment the next week with the nurse. She sent me for ultrasound and now I am going for a biopsy nextweek. I am nervous as hell, and I've only been at this for a couple of weeks. I cannot imagine waiting for as long as they are making you wait.

Thank you for your reply! I even explained to the nurse how anxious I was and she said the PS was booked up til November 14th. Because I suffer from ptsd, when I'm not busy doing other things, I'm constantly checking it to see if I'm paranoid. I pray it's fat necrosis or scar tissue but that wouldn't explain the rash and the dull ache behind the implant. I've been exercising doing Jillian Michaels " six pack abs in six weeks" dvd to burn off anxiety. At this rate, at least I'll be ripped by the 14th Lol! Trying to keep a sense of humor

Call your MO and/or PCP. Either can order imaging. You should not have to wait that long. Or call another place in the area. And let your docs know you are calling. When I told mine I was seeking another opinion, they magically found another date for me
Even if they tell you it feels like scar tissue, insist on imaging (they told me my recurrence was scar tissue when they felt it).
Hoping yours is benign

Thank you KBeee, I think I will call my PCP and see her to get an ultrasound. Then, by the time I see the PS I can move forward with testing. I thank God I do have a PCP that listens and address my concerns. It's amazing how when under stress you can't think sometimes. Thanks for replying. I'm calling her tomorrow!

Update! So I had a left breast ultrasound and go figure, the technician and the radiologist said they didn't see anything. Although they could feel the lump in my areola it did not show. My PS also ordered me a bilateral breast mri so the technician said that was a better test with implants. That's so crazy how you can feel a lump and it not show up! Well, the mri is scheduled for Friday November 24th. This is so nerve recking! Thanks again everyone for your reply.

I recently had testing for a lump behind the nipple. It did show on US, but that didn't give them much info - "biopsy or return in 3 months" was the answer. The radiologist ordered a 3D mammo and that seemed to confirm it was fat necrosis without a doubt.
I didn't even know they did mammo's with implants. I hope the MRI is helpful.

Hi Not Very Brave,
I forgot to mention they did a mammo before the ultrasound. I didn't know they did mammograms with implants either. Nothing showed on the mamo. I mentioned to the technician I had fat grafting done but she said you didn't have fat grafting in your nipple or aerola. Hmmm, that's true! Can fat necrosis travel? Was your lump painful? My nipple is sore and occasional pain behind implant. Thank you for sharing.

I haven't had any fat grafting. I did have quite a bit of trauma to that nipple with the MX - it was bruised, had bled, and had like a dent across it with the areola looking like two different colors for a bit.
It's not painful. You can kind of see it. I think that's what concerned the BS. They seemed pretty confident about the images, though.
I hope you get some good answers soon!

Not Very Brave thank you for sharing! The things we have endured and still enduring. After my mri friday, I hope it doesn't take too long to get the results. I hate not knowing what's wrong and I feel helpless when I can't help myself. Thanks again for replying.

Update! And nervous! Yesterday, Friday 24th a 7am I had my breast mri. Afterwards, I asked the technician how long would it be before I get the results? She said, because it's Friday, your doctor will have the results probably 3 to 4 business days. I said, that's fine. So last night, my husband said there were two messages on his phone from the Radiologist. (The hospital always uses my husbands number as primary since he is the insurance holder)first message the radiologist said, he had my results and I could page him. The second, saying, trying to reach you again I'm leaving for the day but the doctor has the results. Do radiologist usually call patients? I read, if the radiologist calls, something abnormal showed up. Is this to expedite the situation? What have been your experiences?
-
My radiologist has called both with good news and bad. Guessing they'd call Friday with good news, but wait til Monday with bad news. Only a guess. Keep us posted

Thanks for posting! I will

Update! Okay, the nurse called with my mri results, good news everything looks benign! However, she could not tell me what the lump is I'm feeling. I asked was it scar tissue or fat she said the report didn't mention either. Whaaaat! I had my husband feel it again to make sure I'm not paranoid he said it's definitely there maybe the implant is hiding it if that's possible. So I'm at a loss. I will read my mri results when it appears on My Chart portal.
