sandy, lots of asesome features in your fantasy bathroom, mine is much simpler as main feature is no,leaks !
-
Sandy: I'd be with the self-cleaning bathroom too, but mainly congratulations on springing Bob! So, how bored is he today?
-
Sandy, I do hope Bob is doing better! Well I had a rollercoaster of an appointment with my MUCH LOVED BS yesterday. Another doctor walked in and started examining me with only a perfunctory introduction and explanation that she's a colleague of my doctor. It was awful because I was trying to wrap my head around this while she just barged ahead with a physical exam! I was in tears by the time she finished and I was able to point out a lump I found on my chest. She then felt the lump and had me lay down to feel it again. Said she didn't think it was anything but would be right back after seeing if my BS wants to see me in 6 months. I sat there for a long time thinking WTH? I was prepared to ask her when she returned why she didn't prepare me better by talking to me and getting to know me before feeling me up! I felt so defeated and violated and she was a really nice woman. So in walks MY BS. She hugs me and asks me what is going on and that they are trying to rotate patients because she has a boatload of follow up patients . I pointed out the lump and she asked me if I had a port (nope, no chemo), fat grafting (no) and so is ordering an US to be safe. She said it could just be fat that migrated. I was concerned because I didn't notice it before Monday and happened to brush against it. Almost the same way I found my original tumor in my breast. Soooooooo, there's my emotional, traumatic CT experience. Anyone have a ativan latte?
-
Oooo, Molly. I am so sorry that happened to you that way. I don't think many doctors understand how sensitive we can be. Like we are supposed to be super-tough after surviving cancer. They just see bodies, and not the people IN the bodies, sometimes, and somehow, I still manage to have respect for the 'idea' of doctors, anyway. Till I hear things like this. (I am sure Sandy's Huzz Bob is an exception.) I am glad you got your hug from your regular doctor, and I do hope its nothing but migrating fat. I am sorry that you have to even think of recurrence.
-
Oh Molly. I'm sorry about your experience!! I was enraged on your behalf until your BS came in. I'm glad they are doing the u/s - is it scheduled?
Hugs to you.
-
Molly, that sucks! I was enraged to read about it also.
In your pocket for u/s, and sending hugs! xoxox

(( Molly . ))...so sorry your appointment ended up like that .Your BS sounds lovely though .I hope they can organise your ultrasound quickly , and praying for B9 results .
Iris..I think "no leaks " is a great feature for any bathroom :-) I bet it'll look great when it's finished !
-
Gah! How triggering, Molly! Not just the examination without preliminaries, but then dismissing your lump and your fears...at least your own BS was a bit more reassuring. And you deserve a good strong ativan latte.
-
How awful, Molly! QMC has it right: "triggering." Hope it really is just scarring or fat migration. As for that Ativan latte, better make it a Venti. With whipped cream.
Bob went to brunch down the street (I wasn't that hungry, and didn't feel like walking out in the rain, considering I'm going to have to pass exactly that way during rush hour tonight), is doing some CME (continuing medical ed.) on his computer, and watching movies he'd racked up on the DVR. We'll see how late I get home tonight, considering we're running all of Act I in order tonight (and I'm in three numbers including the last one, so no getting sprung early for me this time). If he wants a late dinner out we'll probably go out to the Fireside (open till 3 am), or maybe if it's early enough that some places next to the Granville L station are open, I can bring home Asian or Mexican. (The latter is not such a good idea, as too much fiber this soon can lead to, uh, lower digestive effluent). He is definitely going back to work tomorrow.
-
(wistful sigh) Nice to have restaurants nearby that are open past nine
I can't claim inspiration on "triggering"; I seem to have fallen in with the veterans on campus (one in particular, who's PTSD as bleep)
-
Sandy, your hubby is amazing! QMC, that must be rough to have such bad PTSD! Thanks for the support everyone. Triggered is perfect. I don't know why I have so much trouble speaking up for myself. I wish I had stopped her and told her she needed to have a conversation with me or at least buy me a drink first!
-
Molly ..great idea ..I think all our doctors should have a cocktail with an umbrella in it ready for us as we arrive !!!
-
(snorts of laughter) I'm on board with one of those "umbrella" drinks for each patient. (I may use the "last time this happened, the guy bought me a drink first" on my MO the next time I see him.)
And yes, the PTSD (mine and that of my veteran friend) does make our interactions fraught at times; we came this close to setting off smoke alarms over the summer.
-
Ach, Molly! How unpleasant. I think a lot of the time, many of the medical types--all of them, really just don't key into our emotional state because, well, they're at work. So their emotions are focused, professional, and unless we show up leaking tears, they have no idea that there is anything wrong. Whereas for many/most of us even showing up in the BS/MO's office is an emotional experience because we're terrified of diagnosis/treatment/recurrence. It's a huge disconnect that is simply pervasive. In any case, I'm so glad your own doctor came in and was so nice and straightforward. Hope the US reveals absolutely nothing, i.e. migratory fat cells. And pass the Ativan.
Sandy, glad Bob is sprung. I don't suppose you would, at some point in the future, post a video of you in the performance?
I don't have an ideal bathroom, though I suppose if I did have one it would have a heated floor and be self-cleaning. Can you imagine?
Be well, crazies....
-
The rehearsal videos thus far are pretty much "blackmail material:" earlier ones had us blocking scenes while still holding scripts; newer ones are a bit tighter, but we're still in street clothes--performing in a large conference room at the Chicago Bar Assn. bldg. We move to the theater the Sunday night after Thanksgiving; tech rehearsals Monday & Tues., dress rehearsal Wed. and we open Thurs, the 30th. After the run ends with Sunday 12/3's matinee, there will be lots of videos posted to YouTube--and I'll link to them.
And since this show lampoons current events--and events can turn on a dime (last year's show had to be rewritten almost from the top after the election), none of us can assume our roles will end up exactly as they currently are. At least we've finally gotten it down to a tight 90 min. We already dumped a funny song featuring Kid Rock discussing his run for Senator from MI, because the candidacy was a stunt and he is not running after all. My first year in the show, I had a bit speaking role as a TV reporter introducing a number about the priest scandals (a parody of "How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?"), and every day during the run of the show (we did a whole week back then) I'd get a phone call from the writing team tweaking my lines. A few years later we had a scene in which Gov. Rod Blagojevich was lamenting the state's budget crunch. The morning of opening night, Blago was arrested at his home and taken into custody. So in the new scene, the actor playing Blago entered handcuffed anxd wearing an orange jumpsuit. The actor playing his chief of staff deadpanned "So what's new?" Blago answered, "Meh--same old same old." The audience went nuts. A year later we had a really funny number about Dick Cheney accidentally shooting his hunting buddy, with a lyric riff on Shakespeare's "let's kill all the lawyers." Halfway through the run of the show, a disgruntled ex-husband opened fire in a West Loop divorce lawyer's office, killing his ex-wife's lawyer, another partner and a couple of secretaries. Out went the number--we simply lengthened the dance breaks & songs in a couple of scenes. The guy playing Cheney was a good sport about it.
-
sandy, your play or skits sound funny, you have a greant writer in the group.
Hmmm, bathroom proceeding and the end is near, i will have to check if we can add heated floors although this is sort of late in process, i just want it to,be done!
-
I love your skits, Sandy! Right up my alley of humor. I would love a bathroom with a heated floor but a total waste here in So Cal where it is rarely even chilly much less cold. I want to remodel my kitchen and bathroom but DH really doesn't want to. We have lived in this house since 2002 and the kitchen has no counter space. It is a 1918 Craftsman. I adore the house but trying to balance cooking trays and pans on top of coffee pots etc is for the birds.
-
I grew up in a Craftsman home built around 1918, and would love to live in one again someday.....but I hear you on the lack of counter space, Molly!
Recovery from the knee replacement is going well: had a two week postop visit to have staples removed and look at progress: doc was very happy with my extension and bending: says he can tell I've been doing the PT! So yay for that....it is a lot of work, but I think it will be worth it.
Hugs to all
Octogirl
-
octo, great to hear your knee is improving! Yeah for you
-
Octo ..that is wonderful news !!! :-)
-
Octo, great job doing your PT!
-
Octo, keep up the good work! As I said, after a few months improvement will be sudden and rapid. You will wonder why you waited so long!
Remember to keep icing and elevating (toes above nose, as they say over at BoneSmart).
-
Great news, Octo! (Or, as spell check would have you, October)
Molly, as a NYC apartment dweller, I feel your pain on the kitchen counter front. Ours is compounded by the high ceilings, and I'm always on the step stool, balancing mixing bowls that are stored well over my head. My dream is a small house with a large kitchen inside, but it's not happening soon!
-
rainny, my flour etc are all stored on the top shelf which I can baaaaaaaaarely reach and have been known to topple on my head coming out of the cabinet. I will just look at some articles about creating storage. I may try some of them! I will let you know how it goes. I am waiting for the authorization of my US. I callled today and it was confirmed she referred me as promised.
-
Just checking in on all the Crazies...
Molly ..have you been given a time for your ultrasound yet ? Thinking of you ..
We have started watching Broadchurch...series 1 ...Thanks for the tip to watch it ...I never watch T.V during the day normally , but I find myself thinking " I'll just watch one more episode " 😃
-
Molly, I hope you hear about the US soon, if you haven't already. My flour is in canisters behind the sink.
We're not much for TV, but we have a list of movies. We recently saw two pictures with Woody Harrelson: LBJ and Three Billboards in Billings, Montana. Both good if not especially cheerful.
Here's my question, crazies: My sisters are competing on the Thanksgiving dessert front, so I thought I'd bake some breakfast goodies. Which should I do: Cranberry bread? Lemon poppyseed pound cake? Coffee cake with instant coffee and cardamon? Help me out!
Love and happy Thanksgiving!
-
Rain, you could win the competition without even entering by baking all three! :-) (oh all right, if you can only do one, I vote for the coffee cake...)
Hubby and I are heading out Wednesday to spend a few days in a rented home in Bodega Bay by the Sonoma coast with my sister and some of her family (one of her sons and his wife, and an exchange student from Spain staying with her) and a good single friend of ours. Sis had called and asked me to host Thanksgiving because she wanted to show the student a traditional family Thanksgiving. Ok great, sis, but I just had my knee replaced and NO WAY was I going to cook and clean and host. (and sis lives in middle of nowhere so she couldn't convince us to do the 8 hour drive from anywhere to her house...)
It will be fun once we get there, but sis and student are flying in (the other guests live in the SF area and can drive up easily)...which meant while she can do much of the cooking day of with help from her DIL, while I sit around and supervise, hubby and I still had to shop. We are keeping the menu simple, and I ordered the desserts from my favorite bakery, but still a lot to buy. I am happy to report that I was able to accompany hubby to do the shopping (no way I was giving up control of that to him), and we got it all done in just over an hour early this am, with me using the walker and taking breaks to sit in the walker seat when it got to be too much. I am getting stronger!
My goal is to take a walk with just the cane by the coast (but not actually on the beach, can't handle the sand yet) while we are there. Will send a pic if I do!
We will be continuing all the celebrations by heading down to LA the next weekend: my granddaughter recently joined a nationally ranked children's chorus, and we have to be there for the first concert. So proud of her (she is only nine). I can't wait to see her sing!
Have a wonderful holiday, all crazies! And Lucy, one of these years, you need to come to the States in November and join us...

Hi Crazies!
My keyboard on my tablet has refused to work for ages, but want you all to know I have read every post and I was with you all through treatments, doctor visits, testing, surgeries. ......and other crazy making senerios. My tablet updated recently so now ...so hopefully it will continue......
MONDAY AM I have my third MRI on my enlarged internal mammary node, on the opposite side that I had BC....IT CANNOT BE BIOPSIED because it is under my chest bone close to where clavicles attach and is near my heart in a very vascular area. The MRI will also show if my 3 enlarged axillary nodes on my cancer side are still enlarged or changed.
Thanksgiving will be my son and daughter, grandson, hubby and I at our house.,...cutting down on the big turkey (the big carcass grosses me out, since it has always been ME to deal with it) so having 2 làrge roasted turkey breast and a turkey ham and all the "trimmings.
HUGS TO YOU ALL!
Di
-
Di! Good to hear from you. I am in your pocket for the MRI. Octogirl, your Thanksgiving sounds wonderful. I am still waiting on authorization for the ultrasound. Hopefully I can get it tomorrow and get the test scheduled. Lucy, enjoy Broadchurch. I haven't watched lately because we have had DGS a lot. Our Thanksgiving will be us, my son's GF and another family of 4. So 11 total for dinner. My friend's family is gluten free so we are splitting cooking. Turkey, mashed potatoes, yams, green beans casserole, my home made rolls, gluten free biscuits and pie for dessert. My favorite meal of the whole year.
-
In your pocket also, Di! Please keep us posted.
