Surgical Biopsy Yay or Nay?

I know this is long, but I am trying to give all of the considerations I am thinking through....

I had an abnormal screening mammogram. I had the ultrasound and the diagnostic mammogram.

On the mammogram, it was noted that the initial areas that seemed like they might be a concern were cysts. Yay.

    BUT......

Another area that was not a concern on the initial mammogram is showing a 1.4 cm mass. It looks suspicious and got a 4 BIRAD rating.

The radiologist and my doctor both favor the surgical biopsy as, IF (and I know this is an if) it is cancer, it is removed. I see the appeal as if it is cancer, it is removed and that is step one. But, I am also aware that this is a surgical procedure (outpatient I know) and that is a concern, as there is more recovery time.

My work requires a doctor's note or 2 weeks notice for time off, so I am going to have to tell them what is going on, especially as I never take sudden time off. We had another employee in the office who got sick and my bosses volunteered to take on his power of attorney, so I am not worried they will treat me badly once they have an idea what is up...even if it nothing at the end.

But, what are the pros and cons from people who have been through both biopsy options?

In case it matters, the "mass" is at 12 o'clock and vaguely between the nipple and collar bone (my doctor hadn't seen the actual ultrasound when I spoke with him). There was no evidence of calcifications or distortion. There was swelling of lymph nodes, but at this point, we have no idea if this is related or totally something else.
