Evening, I was diagnosed with DCIS and I had 3 tumors in the breast that was positive for cancer, stage 2, also in lymp nodes but the couldnt' biopsy them when they did the other tumors because of Thorasic Outlet Syndrome, I started aggressive chemo in Feb until this past June and now I go for Herceptin every 3 weeks and I am having double masec next Tuesday, followed up with 33 rounds of radiation and then Tamoxfen. Just wondering if anyone had surgery first?

Thank you.

Cindy,

    Hi Cindy,

I'm so sorry to hear about your troubles. But am a bit confused. I'm wondering if you had two separate diagnoses. You mention "3 tumors...stage 2" + "agressive chemo" and "Herceptin." That all sounds more like one of the invasive cancers, like IDC (invasive ductal carcinoma).

DCIS is not invasive, is always Stage 0 and I don't think I've ever heard about chemo or herceptin with a DCIS-only diagnosis.

Often women have some DCIS when they have an invasive diagnosis as well. When that happens, the treatment is usually directed at the invasive BC, since whatever if used to treat that will usually be considered sufficient to deal with the DCIS. The one usual exception to that is that the surgical treatment will also want to remove the DCIS.

If you have an invasive cancer, in addition to the DCIS, you will probably get more helpful replies if you re-post on the board which addresses the particular invasive cancer you're having to deal with.

My very best wishes to you!

yes Lisa you are correct, it said invasive carcinoma, I didn't ask a lot of questions when diagnosed I was in a fog and then immediatley after first chemo deadly sick for the next 6 months, I didn't realize they were two seperate cancers until you pointed it out, yes, hre2 neg and her2 positive, thank you for figuring out what I was trying to ask. I will look for the boards for the invasive carcinoma and the her2. Thanks again. Cindy,
