Is it normal / ok to get 2 biopsies in the same breast...
Hello everyone,
So this is my first post and I am freaking out but won't get into that now. I had a diagnostic mammo and ultrasound for a lump I found at the bottom of my right breast 5:00 ish spot. They could not see it on mammo at all but could in ultrasound. They also did find calcifications on the mammo tail end by/at my chest wall 11:00 ish.
She set up ultrasound core biop for this tues for the lump and stereotactic core biop for wed for the calcifications. Is this ok so close together !? If I have a hole / injured lump from the day before in the bottom of my breast ... then squeezing my breast in a mammo ... will it make the lump explode or something. I may sound ridiculous but I am really scared about all of this and the thought of having cancer is terrifying me.
Thank you all for any comments!
Dora

I had 2 spots in the same breast biopsied in the same day, then was taken straight in to another mammogram. They said they’d be more gentle than normal. The local anesthesia hadn’t worn off so it wasn’t awful at all.
After they put the wires into my breast for surgery, they also did mammos. I’ve had more mammos in the past several months than most people ever will I think!
Your questions don’t sound ridiculous. I was terrified too. I think most people are. This place really helped. I asked tons of questions and learned so much. I also found my family and friends could only deal with so much of my terror, I suppose because they were also trying to accept my situation, but the people here understand and weren’t ever offended by my emotions.I hope it works out for you.

Hi everyone...I had 5 biopsies done at the same time. Three in one breast and 2 in the other! I was sore for a while but that is it. Good luck and keep us posted.

I had three biopsies in the same Breast on the same day followed by mammogram to confirm placement of the markers. I also was still a bit numb from the local and they were very gentle. I got a hematoma from the stereotactic biopsy, didn't look pretty but didn't hurt much.

Doranyc,
I can't imagine that doing the biopsies one day apart would cause any major problems, but I think it might make the second one a little more painful, because your breast will be sore from the first biopsy. However, they will numb you adequately, so it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

I wonder why they dont just do them the same day instead of giving you a day in between. I am having 2 spots done tomorrow in the same breast. I would much rather knock them out in one day.

Shazelwo, I was wondering the same thing. I had a stereotactic and ultrasound on the same day. The ultrasound one just took a few minutes in a different procedure room when they were done with the other

I too had a stereotactic and ultrasound guided biopsy on the same day, with no issues. Thinking back, I'm glad I did as I got it over with and didn't need to go back to the hospital the next day. Best wishes to you

Your breasts can take a real beating and be just fine. Hang in there!!

Golly, Dora. I would question the doctor about the order of things. I mean, does the doc actually know what the schedulers arranged? I had a mammogram maybe a week after an ultrasound-guided core needle biopsy, and the pain almost made me faint. On the other hand, the mammograms right after biopsies have been fine because the area was still numb, and also I don't think they compress so hard checking the clip placement as they do for a diagnostic mammogram. So I would want to know what level of compression they would be needing to use, and whether I could switch the order of the two biopsies or do them on the same day. Sorry, I don't want to cause you more worry, but honestly, we do have to look out for ourselves. Stay busy and distract yourself while waiting.

Thank you everyone for the replies!
I know I wish they were in the same day. Or reversed. They only do the stereotactic once a week and with the holiday the next week they were skipping that one andI would have to wait 2 weeks so I guess this was the quickest way. This is being done at a radiology facility (though came highly recommended by my gyno office nurse) not a hospital so I guess they don't have them everyday unfortunately. My heart is beating out of my chest with nerveousness but trying to keep busy until then.
