Jmo have you discussed the BMX with your surgeon? Sometimes they can do things that make it easier with insurance. I am very small as well (5'5" currently 105lbs) and have very cystic, dense breasts. When we found the cancer in my right breast they decided that I was going to need reconstruction even with a lumpectomy. Then they said I would need something done on the other side to match them up. We decided on skin/nipple sparing BMX to get rid of the cancer and cystic issues. It ended up being a great decision as they found IDC in the prophylactic side as well- that did not show up on Mammo, US, or MRI. Maybe if you do both breasts, since they are "busy" you can get a larger size and possibly avoid radiation. I would think you would have to act fast on that though as they like to start radiation soon after your lumpectomy. Obviously you you shouldn't just lop off breasts but in some cases it is the right thing to do. Your surgeon n should be able to advise you though and if he thinks it's in your best interest he should be able to get it approved.
