Long term bone pain after chemo
Comments
-
I was dx with Stage 1B triple negative breast cancer just over a year ago. I underwent a partial mastectomy, chemo and radiation (finished radiation 12/12/16). I opted for triple doses of the Taxol during chemo. It's now been just over a year since completing the Taxol treatment and I still have severe bone pain in my legs every time the weather changes. I mean... I have a high pain tolerance (I pass kidney stones every 3-4 months without pain meds), but this bone pain is unbearable! It's not so much the pain level (maybe a 7 or 8, at its worst), but the non-stop pain when it hits. Anyone else dealing with this? Other problems I've been experiencing include bowel issues, joint pain, I've torn my meniscus from minor fall, lack of energy... Have any of you dealt with this stuff a year out? I'm so frustrated. Please tell me something helps with this bone pain and if it ends at some point. Thanks l

Perhaps you could ask the doctor to check your thyroid hormone and vitamin D levels. I get all symptoms mentioned above when these are off. Best wishes, hopefully your symptoms will improve soon!

Dear Luckytnbc,
We are sorry that you are having such difficult side effects and so glad that you reached out to our members. Her is a thread devoted to users of Taxol. You may find others to communicate with there. Let us know if you need help getting connected and navigating the boards. The Mods

Have you had any scans after treatment?
-
I've only had a mammogram until yesterday. The oncologist told me they don't do scans after tnbc treatment is complete. My primary care doctor sent me for a full skeletal survey yesterday. I'm waiting for results.
-
DNTNY: I'm taking Levothyroxin for my thyroid and vitamin D supplements, daily. I had more lab work completed yesterday along with a full skeletal survey. Awaiting results.

If you already have a thyroid problem, than it is a good chance that your symptoms are related to this. Blood test results can be perfect, but one could feel like dying because of such symptoms. In my case, to see improvements I had to switch to Armour Thyroid adding 5000 IU of vitamin D. If you search with my username, you will find I posted under a thread which has "Hashimoto" in the title. Few other users did too, giving suggestions to a fellow sufferer with thyroid problems and symptoms similar to yours. Best wishes!

I'm 5 years out from being dx and this year I developed terrible hip pain. I has a scan and it showed nothing.

Thanks DATNY. I'll look into this and discuss with my doctor.

Sorry to hear, jenjenl! Good luck finding out what's causing your pain. We have to be investigators and advocates for ourselves. I feel like I've aged 20 years in the past year and the doctors just don't seem to have any answers. Best of luck to you.

I'm glad your primary has run tests. Always nice to rule out the big stuff. I too have Hashimoto and Graves. My joints have been hard to move in the cold weather. Hoping you feel better soon!

Shellsatthebeach:
I must admit, I had no idea what either of those things were, so I had to look them up. How confusing! One disease give you hyperthyroidism and one give hypothyroidism??? How do you manage? Chemo does some strange things to the body, huh? Sorry to hear your in pain with cold weather. As far as I'm concerned, living in MA is even worse than living in ME when it comes to dealing with the weather. I was born in MA, but moved to northern ME 12 years ago. MA cold has a damper cold - if that makes sense to you. It feels colder in the bones!
I'll post again when I hear back from my primary with the results of the skeletal scan and blood work.
