Port removal-local anesthetic or something better?

I had mine taken out with just the local. I wasn't given the option of anything else or I would have taken it because I was really nervous about having it removed. It ended up being okay with the local, I just had to work really hard at not thinking about what was going on I was alot more aware of the tugging and pressure sensations than I was when I had the port put in (when I was mildly sedated). I did like the fact that I felt "normal" right after the procedure because I didn't have any other anesthesia than the local. I could've driven myself home afterward if my husband hadn't been with me. But boy was I nervous in the time leading up to my appointment!!

I keep putting off getting mine removed for this exact reason. The surgeon who put it in just uses a local to remove it. I want “something better" too. After all the crap we've been through and this is the thing that hangs me up ?!? Does anyone know if they suture the hole in the vein closed or does it just close up on its own with applied pressure ?

I'm scheduled to have my port removed in two weeks. My BS is going to remove it in her office. I heard it only takes a few minutes. I assume I'll be given a local.

I'm wary too. It was inserted in a hospital operating room and I was knocked out. I'm amazed that the removal is so quick and easy (when the insertion is such a big deal.) Since my port has a blood clot, I want it out ASAP so I can get off the blood thinners.

I had a local only, and it was even a bit difficult for them to remove in the general spectrum of how hard it can be, but it was fine. I specifically asked for nothing more because I wanted to go straight to work.
