Surgeon says wires will be placed before surgery. I had a rough biopsy and am nervous. Can anyone fill me in on what to expect? Thanks.

Hi Lorrainenj. There is first a local anesthetic injection, and probably an injection of colorant also. Then a thin wire guide is put into the breast to lead to the tumor or suspect tissue. Then mammogram views are done to make sure the wire is properly placed.

I had a lumpectomy and SNB. A wire was placed in my tumour so my breast surgeon would know where it was. I was taken to ultrasound/mammography where they used ultrasound to insert the wire. It wasn't bad for me, didn't feel it going in. They did a mammogram after and didn't bother me for that either.

    Good luck with your procedure.

thanks so much for your reply. I have a hematoma from the biopsy and hoping that resolves before surgery on 12/12..you are kind to help.

thank you for your help. I don't have a lump. It was calcifications so hoping they figure out what to remove. Surgery 12/12. Pretty worried. Hoping for the best. Sounds like you are a trooper.

looking forward to healing and moving on. I live alone so too much time to think about this. Trying to stay positive. Thanks for clearing that up.
