Drains drains drains forever

I am clearly going to set a record for drains. I have two still in. Today I was supposed to get the other two out but there still producing the doctor wasn’t comfortable taking them out at this point. I am annoyed. Next week will be three weeks and I am so so sick of them. They hurt and I am exhausted. I know it takes time to heal but I am getting annoyed. I want them out and I want to move on to the next phase of this process. *sigh

I'm sorry Kahnartis that the incisions are still putting out so much fluid. Did he give a reason why they might still be like that? Using your arms alot? I'm assuming it is a significant amount for him to keep them in. I'm trying to remember what the PS said the output would have to be to ditch the drains. 10cc or less total per side for the whole day maybe? I'd have to find my papers.

I understand wanting them out. Draining them hurt up at the incision site and just not being able to wear normal things with those drains hanging.

Hopefully you will see the amount decreasing very soon and can get right back there and have him take it out.

One of my drains was removed at 2 weeks with no issue. The other was removed at 4 weeks and I wish it hadn't been. It was still draining a bit more than desired for removal but Dr thought it might be causing 'irritation' so more draining and removed it. A fairly large seroma developed (was drained twice). The seroma was still visible on an MRI with contrast at 6cm 8 weeks later. I'd much rather have dealt with the drain a while longer than with the seroma.

I had no pain when dealing with my drains - with seroma definitely PAIN.

I used a bandage pin (large safety pin used to secure leg wraps on horses) to hook the drain bulbs(s) to the side loop of my jeans with no problem. It was winter, so I always have my 'winter uniform' on (a turtle neck under a baggy sweat shirt or baggy flannel) so nothing to 'see'.

Bottom line as far as I'm concerned - Taking drains out too early just to get rid of dealing with them can bring on more/worse issues.
