    Thanks MIPat. Do you (or MaggieCat?) know how significant this study of neoadjuvant (preoperative) treatment is in relation to the adjuvant treatment we all had?

    Good question Isabel... I copied this from the full report....

    "In 47 occurrences of pCR (40%), patients and physicians opted for no additional chemotherapy; survival follow-up in these patients will be documented and reported."

    Members of this subset are as close a match to us as this trial has. After 3 cycles of T-DM1 they had no cancer left at the original tumor site. For us we had "no cancer left" after surgery and then had a number of cycles of T-DM1. We need to keep watch for updates...

    Hi ladies, happy new year to all! I have my 6-month appt. at Dana Farber this Wednesday. This is the "easy" one with no scheduled mammo, just an exam with the PA. It will mark 4.5 years...

    Hi Wabals-- I take tamoxifen. I switched to Arimidex briefly last spring, but had a bad experience with it, so switched back to Tamox. I have no problems with it. Yesterday's appointment was exactly what I hoped for--in and out, not much to talk about, exam fine.

    Hi all. I hope none of us ever needs this, but it's good to know researchers continue to test promising new drugs for advanced HER2. This article was in the Dana Farber newsletter on women's cancers.

    So, today was my annual mammogram, 2 years after the one that showed the breast cancer. I needed two more images on both sides. The left was clear, but they found microcalcifications on the right which is my surgical side. While the radiologist said that they were more than likely benign, because of my history I now have to have a stereotactic breast biopsy of the area. Needless to say, I am not a happy person right now. I am praying that it is nothing serious since they can be related to the radiation and necrosis of fat.

    MIPat--UGH. It's sickening that you have to go through this. Repeat the mantra: it's probably nothing. Because most things ARE nothing. Decide on what present you want to give yourself when this is over. Not much activity on this thread for the last few weeks, but I do check it every day--please post results. Thinking of you and pulling for you. (And CURSING.)

    Hi MIPat--hoping you get good news pronto! I'm somewhat edgy because I will have my three-year testing this month. Waiting is the worst part, but waiting when you've been through what we have is really hard.

    Years ago microcalcifications rarely caused a stir, but at least we get world-class care in an over abundance of caution.

    Will watch for your post, hopefully soon!

    Hi MIPat, so sorry to hear about your having to go through this! I’ll be thinking of you. I have my mammogram and follow-up appointment tomorrow, Tuesday, 3 years from diagnosis. I can’t believe it’s been that long. Feeling a bit anxious...

    Hi all, just reporting that my mammogram (½ mammo in my case!) was normal. Whew! A mammogram will never again feel routine.

    I asked my study nurse about the trial results. She said it will likely be a couple of years before the final results are out, as of course the follow-up with patients is a necessary part. She said she thought some patients were just finishing treatment.

    Great news, SerenitySis! My 1/2 mammo is in July--it will be the all-important 5-yr mark for me, so I expect the anxiety to be even worse than other years. Here in the Northeast spring still seems far away, but it has to come at some point!

    Thanks, IsabelArcher, you are 2 years ahead of me! I had a long wait in the waiting room for my results, everyone else there had come & gone, so I started getting really nervous. They were just slow.

    I am also in the northeast, so I know what you mean!

    A huge sigh of relief. A day later than promised I received my results. The microcalcifications turned out to be fat necrosis most likely a result of radiation treatment. I have to have a follow up mammogram in 6 months. The stereotactic biopsy wasn’t as awful as I expected, but then again with everything that we have to go through it is all relative. After getting all set up, they questioned the depth that the computer was saying the calcifications were at and I had to go for additional mammogram films before restarting the entire thing. I do feel like I have been through the emotional ringer on this one.

    Serentiysis glad that you had negative films. You are correct. Long gone are the days where we would say “oh, I have my mammogram next week” Part of that new norm

    MIPat, I am so happy to hear this. Phew! As for the stereotactic biopsy, I had a bad experience with it 5 yrs ago--unusual, and weird. But yes, everything is relative... At the same time that the anxiety tears us up, we have become strong and resilient in ways we didn't know were possible, right?

    Hello, ladies. Interesting news about Herceptin--a study in the UK found that it can be given for 6 months with the same benefits as 1 year. When I was on the TDM1 trial, and had to stop early because of low platelet count (but continued on Herceptin alone), my onc said the decision to set the TDM1 treatment for a year was just researchers' best guess and based on the Herceptin year. So this news about Herceptin could have implications for TDM1 in the future.

    Hi IsabelA, I really appreciate your posting. I wish I could have done the whole treatment in 6 mos. I'm positive I would have had fewer side effects, avoided the significant fatigue that got worse over time, and not lost so much weight. Well, that's why many of us did the trial, so that options could open up for the women coming after us.

    So great to have it all behind us. I hope everyone is doing well!

    Does anyone have one of those "cooling" pillows that are supposed to keep you cool at night? If yes, does it work and which one do you have

    TinyDancer: I have a cooling pillow. It doesn't work very well. When you first put your head on the pillow, it's cool. But it warms up quickly. I often wake up in the middle of the night cause my head is too warm -- I turn the pillow to a cool side and go back to sleep. I bought mine at Costco. Since it was cheap (less than $20) I thought I would give it a try.
