Callback on first mammogram for asymmetry

I'm 40 with no family history of bc and my Dr last did a breast exam this past July when I had my pap. She felt nothing suspicious. I was sent for a mammogram because I Just turned 40 and she likes her patients to get one then. I started the birth control pill (linessa) a few months ago for an unrelated issue. So that's my background.

My Dr called yesterday that I've been called back for spot compressions. There is an area on both breasts that showed up as being more dense(focal asymmetry I think?) I think it's the same part of both but I could be wrong there. She told me not to worry as she sees callbacks for the same thing all the time and that she wasn't concerned at all. Of course I'm worried and spent most of the night on Dr Google (read lots of threads on this site). My best friend is a Dr and I usually consult her on these things but she's on vacation and I don't want to bother her until she gets back. Any advice or thoughts welcome.

    Dear Larlaw,

Do you have the repeat test scheduled? Most here will tell you to try not to worry until you have clarity after the next mammogram. We suspect that what your doctor is telling you is true and her urging you not to worry is for good reason. We know that that is all easier said than done but at least try to stay away from Google until you have clearer results. Such searching can lead to more unnecessary anxiety. Here is a link to our main site about Mammogram results. It might offer you some questions to pose to your doctor after your test results are clearer. Keep us posted and let us now how things go for you. Thanks for reaching out. We are hoping for good results for you and peace of mind. The Mods

Thank you for your response. I was speaking to my Dr Friday afternoon and she said I would be getting a phone call which I suspect will happen early next week. My dad died from cancer when I was 17 and I've had a huge fear of it my whole life. Keeping busy, keeping calm and praying. I've ended up on the bad end of statistics on my infertility journey (I'm in the percentage of ppl that science actually can't make pregnant) which my head keeps going to. Hopefully I'll have the appointment sooner rather than later. Frankly when the tech said not to worry if I get called back because its common for first timers to get called back I figured I was getting called back. Thanks again.

I just got called back on Thursday for Focal asymmetry as well my next mammo and US is on Monday at 1:30

This is the second time I've been called back since 2013. I had a 3D mammo this time, was hoping it would cut down on a call back I wasn't that lucky lol. I get the freaking out part as I did that last year when I got called back, I'm trying not to do that this time but it's hard. Especially since it's in my right breast this time and nit my left my right has been clear for 5 years. I don't have any known cancer on either side of the famiky

Hoping everything works out for you, best of luck. Im sorry you lost your dad so young, I lost mine at 19 to a heart attack, it's hard not having them here

Thank you. It seems like a pretty common reason to get called back. My mom is 81 and she's been called back twice over the years. I believe once ended up being calcification and the second time it was a fold. Best of luck to you as well.

larlaw, good that you have it scheduled! As it is your first one, callbacks are quite common as there is no previous images to compare with. Hoping you have a skin fold, or that it is just the way that your tissue presents 'normally'. Good luck!

    Update.

Right breast was fine after spot compressions.

Left breast not so much. The spot is behind the nipple. Had to get an ultrasound done. The radiologist said it's solid but looks like it could be scar tissue. But she was concerned as the mammo showed sone dimpling. I did notice that the nipple on that side had a good when I take off one of my bras but it goes back to normal immediately. I also had a giant bruise on that breast a few months ago. Anyway I have to get a mri next week to see if it is scar tissue and have a biopsy scheduled for Nov 24. Currently huddled at my mom's place flipping out.

first....take a deep breath. I know it's terrifying ad I had the exact same reaction and thoughts. I was a basket case until i got my mri results back (I was ok...it was scar tissue). Right now they just want more information as they don't know exactly what it is. Was this your first mammogram?

Back in Sept 2016, my Mammogram showed a focal asymmetry on the upper outer part of right breast. I had a MRI and it didnt even show. However they, found a very small mass about 5mm that was a fibroadenoma and a non mass enhassment on the right breast too around 2 oclock position, an MRI guided biopsy was recommended. After I had a 2nd look ultrasound the same radiologist who read my mammo and MRI said the area of enhancement didnt stand out from my background parenchyma. Since then I am just having 6 month follow ups. I was suppose to go for another mammo yesterday but my breasts are so engorged and painful Im about to have my period so I rescheduled it for some other day.
