Dense breast tissue, can’t see lump in imaging

Hey there. I just found my lump in my left breast about over a month ago now. Almost 2 months ago. Had a period and it didn’t go away or change. It hasn’t really changed that I can notice, and I found (accidentally in shower) it what felt like over night due to not using a sponge and using my hand with soap instead. Long story short it got everyone scratching their heads it seems. Blood work is fine. Had the ultrasound and nothing can be seen, mainly due to my dense breast tissue. It’s hard to tell what it is, if it’s good or bad etc, and can’t tell where’s it starts or ends. It seems like the lump has slight blood flow as well, according to the ultrasound. There were areas and patches of blue and red, mainly in one or two areas only. I will be booked for an MRI and I guess we’ll see what happens. The doctor wasn’t concerned at all he said my breast look normal but dense and he didn’t ask about how I was feeling so when I told him that I had experienced weight-loss extreme fatigue etc. he recommended an MRI. And said it could be something or it could be nothing. Super helpful.Hoping Everyone the best in their journey .

    I might add that I was supposed to have a mammo but dr said due to dense breast tissue any further imaging other than mri would be useless.

    Okay, I hate to be the bad news person interjecting, but I have to tell my sister's story. She had a 3D mammo - she has extremely dense breast tissue. They saw a little shadow so did an ultrasound. Still didn't show. The radiologist made a decision to do a biopsy on my sister because myself and my mom are survivors. Under normal circumstances, he said he would not have done one. Thank God they did. My sister was Stage 3C - nothing at all showed on previous mammogram. So even with a 3D, hers did not show.

    I thank God every day they did the biopsy - so please keep my sister in mind as you make your decisions. Glad you are getting that MRI.

    I’m a strong believer in listening to your body and doctors aren’t always right, even I work in a hospital and see.


    I’m only 25, but I have some factors, two children already, and very early period, but no one in my family has any experience with this. It’s got all of us stumped and the more time goes on of head scratching the more I wonder.

    I thought it hurts around my time of the month, but it hurts every so often, here and there in between. So it’s super tough to say. I haven’t thrown out the c word yet though. Typically it doesn’t hurt. It just feels like a hard lump on my chest/breast. I’m aware of it.

    I’ll be sure to come back and post when I Get any answers/updates.

    quick update, got a call today from my np who was sent the ultrasound results, I think they said my mri was cosigned? Not sure if I heard that right or not. Either way I'll be getting my mri appointment in the mail sometime I guess soon. I hope. Going on two months since I've had the lump. It doesn't hurt at all, only when I breathe and it it's more of a pain in my shoulder blade and chest bone, if I flex my chest it especially hurts in the lower left chest bone areas pretty badly. The lump hasn't changed much, I'd say if it did, I nor anyone else I showed it to hasn't noticed. Some say it got smaller. But I think if anything it’s slightly bigger, as I remember I drew a circle around it and it definitely would have a bigger circle now. Just very hard to tell where it ends on the inner side. Only the outer edge is defined. It's super strange.


    Thought it would have been gone or figured out by now. Will keep updating.
