Waiting for results of my lunpectomy
hi there
So last thursday I had a lumpectomy to remove a 5cm tumor and now waiting for the lab results to come back which is the stressful part, the surgeon who performed the op was amazing she said she is pretty sure it's a phyloides tumor and if that's the case I will have to return for annual checks for at least 2 years to make sure It hasn't returned, how long will I have to wait for these resilts? Will my follow ups be with her? I have seen 3 different people before the op but as she performed It will I see her again? She was so lovely I don't think I want to see anyone else, and also all the info I have seen online says phyloides tumors only really happen in women over 40 I'm only 31 is this not normal? Sorry for all the questions I'm just going out of my head with worry ad I don't even know if it's benign yet xxx

Carly, so sorry you're having to wait for confirmation on your pathology! The wait for results can be quite different from different facilities, depending on the size of the department and workload. I've had everything as fast as a couple of days up to a week+. I would ask the surgical practice where your surgeon works how fast they typically get results back. Also, some practices have a policy of no results by phone, so you have to have an appointment, others will provide phone results; so you could also ask about that if you call them. As far as follow ups, I'm afraid that is yet another answer that is situation specific. I would discuss all of these things with that practice so that you can better understand the expectations. Since you've already had your excisional biopsy, your wait time shouldn't be too much longer. Do try to keep yourself busy and distracted while you wait. Hoping b9 results come to you soon!

Thanks I've been told I will get my results by post but I am hoping to go to the clinic tomorrow to have a check up cause I still seem to have the lump the nurse said that it's really normal as it's fluid filling the gap but wants me to go in and have it drained so I will be asking if they have came back yet
Many thanks for your help x

sounds like you may have a seroma (fluid filled in the gap). Sometimes inflammation can also happen after an excisional biopsy. Glad you'll get your questions answered tomorrow!

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply to me means such a lot having all this worry at the moment xxx
