Hi! I'm wondering if anyone has advice for me as my Dr. thinks all these symptoms are in my mind...I have stage 4 breast cancer and I am Her2 positive.

I'm on Herceptin and Perjeta every 3 weeks for the last year and a half (after having taxol in addition weekly for 6 mts.) and I am still having on and off throbbing muscle pain in my thighs and top of my arms. I am in so much pain and none of the meds that I have tried have really worked much.

Thank you,

Esther

Hi Esther, we're sorry you had to join us, but wanted to say welcome! We're so very glad you've found and our Community.

We hope you get responses from other members soon. Till then, you may want to read through the pages of the HERCEPTIN and/or PERJETA Threads of the Stage IV forum, or the Pain forum, where you can find questions, answers and support from others experiencing treatment-related pain.

    Hope this helps!

Hi Esther - I had similar pain during Herceptin. I took Motrin to take the edge off of it.

Hopefully, others will chime in her with some solutions! Sending all my best to you!

Since finishing herceptin around 6 weeks ago now all my muscular pains in my upper thighs have disappeared and my back ache while still there is greatly reduced. My pain was at annoying level not medicate level so I can’t help with what to take. I do believe all my aches and pains that the oncologist kept checking for metastasis were from the herceptin. She said it wasn’t possible due to the mechanism of the drug. We agreed to disagree as time would tell. So far so good.

I had an awful pain in my legs and thought of course I had mets, I did not, they checked my bones and there was nothing...Your hole body aches during and long after treatment, hormons can also make you ache but they can change the kind of hormons if it gets too bad...it can take a very long time for the aching to pass according to my onc...

Have him call me. I hurt everyday. Have joint pain, aches in my legs, back. So many docs say things like that need to read more of our threads. For every person who has smooth sailing, there are two more left with numbness, pain and a general state of not feeling well

hi, sorry to hear you are all feeling so much pain and I am just feeling the relief of making a stink about my side effects to my oncologist so we could get past any barriers impeding my quality of care including her reluctance to properly handle symptoms in combination with my ptsd diagnosis I had long before stage 3 braca 2 estrogen positive her2 negative breast cancer.

After my treatments switched to single taxol weekly infusions my side effects were unbearable which I found very odd after all the promises that they would not be as bad as the very aggressive 4 drug bi weekly treatments with a nuclear push! Worst part of those 4 treatments for me was the unique bone pain created after a neulasta injection the day after each treatment. I find that taking a simple Claritin allergy pill 12 or 24 hr only because this does not work with extended release tablets for some reason. Completely eliminated debilitating pain inside my bones making me feel crushed without anything touching me. I had no need to use any pain med once I discovered that until they changed the drugs to taxol.

My side effects became so severe on top of picking up a cold that I bruised my ribs coughing! The next 3 weeks I cleared 3 chest X-rays for treatments despite all I was coughing up and clearing a Ct scan with visible decline in my condition.

Shaming is the number one passive aggressive tactic favored by the healthcare field so I wound up giving them quite a dose of it with the proper perspective!

If me asking to be relieved of pain I didn't have before treatment started makes me a drug seeking junkie then what do you call the people who openly profit from causing you that level of pain and refusing to part with the proper medication to treat it? Disgraceful!

We COULD step outside and I will show them what level of pain I live with, but I'd much rather nobody be made to feel that way because it's WRONG!

The letters behind these professional caretakers names like md or rn are simply a listing of training qualifications and make them NO less accountable for their choices and actions concerning YOUR quality of life! They work FOR you, and if they fail to satisfy your needs they can be fired as well as professionally reported to the state for malpractice depending on the severity of the case.

If all you are asking for is relief from the pain treatments have placed you in, anyone hesitant to do that or tries to shame you to silent acceptance of pain you report as a side effect should be reported immediately!

The world is full of qualified doctors and healthcare staff ready to make sure you are safe to do so without fear of retaliation like being told pain only hurts if they acknowledge and treat that for you!

I will keep you all in my prayers and hope you find a solution that works for you!

Oh, I am using lydocane 5% external advesive patch for my rib pain and it works so much better than just oral meds I was very happy with that option added to my pain management
