Hair and Extensions

Hi,

I know the hair, hair, hair thread talks about hair growth, but I have more specific questions.

I had a Stem Cell Transplant in June and my hair is growing back. My son is getting married in May and I would really like my hair to be my usual style, which is between chin and shoulder length. My hair will definitely not be that long by then and I don't want to wear the wig to the wedding.

I have questions for anyone who may have used extensions while their hair grew.

  • Should I look for someone who specifically has done extensions to hair post-chemo? If so, any recommendations in the NY/NJ area?
  • I am considering doing the extensions as soon as I can stop wearing the wig. Is it hard to take care of hair with extensions?
  • I have no idea how much a full head of extensions could cost and if I would need to have it done more than once.
I am wondering if the cost and care makes this thought silly, but I really don't like myself with short hair. I don't want to always regret not looking how I would like for this wonderful day.

Any thoughts and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I hope someone has experience that they can share.

    hi I'm upt82 - I didn't have extensions after chemo but I had them before. They aren't cheap. I think it was $400 and I only had them on the sides to make my hair thicker. That price was for the extensions and putting them in. However I live in San Diego where everything is overpriced. They weren't difficult to take care of and they need to be redone every 8 weeks I think. The price won't be as high since you already own the extensions. You just need to be careful when you brush your hair and if I remember correctly try not to slather on the conditioner where they are attached to your own hair because it can make them slip and fall out. Hope that helps
