I had bmx Thursday 10/19 and I still can’t really move. My arms have lots of range but when I try to sit up it kills and if I stand it hurts. I am not really into continuing the pain meds since they are making me sleep like 20 hours a day. Anyway, I envy you all who are able to move about soon after. I feel like an old lady and also...DRAINS ARE THE DEVIL.

I hope you are are doing amazing and feel good. I am going to try to shower today. I am gross. Thanks for listening.

Taking a shower will do wonders! I felt so much better after a shower, just take it slow. Maybe you can try Tylenol or Motrin if your doctor allows. That seemed to be enough to help with discomfort but did not make me sleepy. Maybe you can sit outside a bit today and enjoy what us probably one our last warm days in the Midwest. I agree that drains suck! Hopefully, yours will come out soon. I did notice that once I started moving around, even if it was slow, i started feeling better and more normal.

    Hope you feel better soon.

I feel the same way about the pain meds.  I hate how they make me feel, BUT take them and stay on top of them.  I had my BMX with lat dorsi flaps on the 13th.  I am 9 days out and today I am finally feeling semi human.   TAKE it easy.  take your time to heal.  Your body needs the rest to heal!

Hang in there Kahnartist, I have been using extra strength Tylenol instead of the Norcol. ( but I only had the one side done) the pain is manageable with it. I find also that it feels better to get up every 2 hours and walk around the house. It hurts at first but seems to stretch out as I go and feels better in the long run. Sending you hugs.. your tough.. remember baby steps.

DRAINS are my nightmare. Sorry you have to go thru it. This sucks. You’ll feel so much better when the drains are out.

Take it slow--this is a major surgery! Stay well-hydrated and don't worry about exercise--a little walking around is good and likely to be helpful, but heavy exertion isn't necessary or desirable. An OTC pain reliever (if your doc allows it--mine didn't) may help with those drain-related sensations, too. Best of luck! You'll get through this.
