edited October 2017 in Waiting for Test Results

Due to a strong family history, I had genetic testing done in Jan, 2017. They found a “variant of unknown significance" on pal2b. I got redweeed to an oncologist for follow up. My mammo in January was clear. Two years ago, I had a biopsy showing inflammation only, but the time between my mammo and the biopsy was almost a month.

My oncologist recommended the mammo/mri alternating every 6 months. After insurance repeatedly denied it, I finally had it done as a self pay Thursday afternoon. The oncologist called before 8 on Friday morning telling me I needed an ultrasound guided biopsy asap. So, I go Tuesday for the biopsy and she said to come see her for the results on Thursday. This is a woman who has zero availability for appts on a regular basis, so I am understandable worried.

I'm hoping she is just being aggressive because she is an oncologist, but the speed has me very concerned. And the fact she wAnts to see me to give me the results. The waiting sucks.

Soclwrkr, I wouldn't project anything onto the onc wanting to give you results in person. There are many that prefer that, and leave some slots open in their schedule each week to accommodate the need. It sounds as if this is your first mri, so they'll have to check out any concerning findings. This is why mri isn't given to just anyone. It is very sensitive (finds lots of stuff other imaging sources don't) but not as specific (just because it finds something, it doesn't mean it's malignant). That combo leads to lots of biopsies. I am sending you warm thoughts as you wait. I am glad that she is so quick, reduced time for anticipatory anxiety. Do you have your imaging report? What was your BIRADS score? that gives us much better info to go on.

I did get my mri report and it says I have a “7mm x 8mm rim enhancing mass” seen in my right breast. Birads 4.

I was supposed to do my biopsy today, but they cancelled (as I was driving in) due to a mix up in the orders. Apparently I have to have a confirmatory ultrasound prior to the ultrasound guided biopsy, and they can’t be the same day. So I do the ultrasound tomorrow, the biopsy Thursday, and see the doctor on Friday. Another few days of not sleeping.

I had the confirmatory ultrasound yesterday. Today I went back for the biopsy, but the radiologist was sure she found the mass that correlated with the mri due to so many cysts. So she cancelled the us guided biopsy and told me I’ll need to get my dr to order an mri guided biopsy. So, more wiatinf

Not sure this is the best place to post this but am driving myself crazy with worry. I had an MRI done a couple days ago as I was diagnosed with Pagets Disease in the left breast. Thought I would feel better after receiving the MRI results but if it's possible I think I feel worse. I was told there was malignancy found, 1 cm, under the left nipple, I knew that would be there as that's where the Pagets was diagnosed. Was surprised to hear about a mass in the healthy breast, also 1 cm but I think what has me the most scared is another 1 cm mass that is inflamed on the left breast, up higher where I have discomfort and armpit pain. I'm not trying to jump to conclusions but doesn't inflamed mean it has to be inflammatory breast cancer? What else could it be? I have no other symptoms, nothing visual or redness of any kind just general discomfort. Any insight or feedback would be great. I'm terrified.

Sorry that you're here and even more worried, MBPooch! I don't believe that you can equate "1 cm mass that is inflamed" with IBC (which is quite rare). We can get inflammation in our bodies that are not malignant, in fact most of it isn't. Have they done a biopsy yet? That will give you definitive answers. I know waiting is so very hard.
