Possible Fibroadenoma
I had a diagnostic mammo and ultrasound yesterday. Radiologist said it could be a fibroadenoma when he talked to me. He wants to biopsy because it has some characteristics that don’t align with a fibroadenoma. He gave me a BIRADS 4 on the report. My internist called me when she got the report and said, “Lisa, it’s bad.” I was first scheduled for a biopsy on Nov 1, then moved to Oct 30, now it’s Oct 27th. I am telling myself I have a benign fibroadenoma and my doctor is being dramatic. I love the lady, don’t get me wrong; I just disagree with her choice of words. I’m 43; this is my first and only lump. My parents and I are pretty scared. I’m glad I don’t have to wait long for the biopsy. :-). Are there any tell-tale signs of a fibroadenoma, apart from the actual cells?
Thanks, Lisa

Most of these that I see here that say it could be a fibroadenoma but it has some "off" characteristics still turn out to be fibroadenomas on biopsy. Lots of the masses don't seem to read the textbook;)
I'd believe the radiologist. With no sub category, 80% of Birads 4s are benign. If the radiologist thought it looked "bad" it would have been rated a Birads 5, but it wasn't. Try not to worry too much for now

Thanks, Melissa, for the words of encouragement. I appreciate it!!

I had biopsies ultra sound and other tests 4 weeks ago my radioligist said he wasn't happy and that it was too big to be a fibroadenoma as it was 5cm big, I had the lump removed a week ago and the surgeon said she was pretty sure that it was a phylloides tumor
But today I had a phone call from my breast care nurse and she said the results of the lump have came back and it's a harmless fibroadenoma, i still don't feel 100% worry free tho I thought I'd be relieved I am to a certain extent but I still feel worried unless they have missed something, I don't think your doctor should have said it's bad when they don't don't have anything to go by I hope you don't have long to wait let me know how it all goes xxx

Carly, just to reassure you. If you had it removed, the pathologist would have carefully examined the entire fibroadenoma in small sections as to not miss anything. You can relax!
Lisa, Melissa is right, the vast majority of these turn out to be fine!

Well, I had my biopsy this morning. The radiologist said it looked like it could be a Phyllodes. To me that means it “could” also be a fibroadenoma....but he didn’t say that. (Gotta love these docs!!)
I should get the report back early next week and we will go from there. Thanks for all the support!! I appreciate each of you!!
