UDH roll in future cancer

Really just curious. Final pathology found several foci of usual ductal hyperplasia. Does anyone know what the thought is on UDH? I realize it's a benign condition. There seems to be conflicting information as to whether or not it has a precursor roll in future invasive cancer. Just wondering if anyone was keeping an eye on this and could give more info.

momto6---nothing to be really concerned about without the "atypia". ( ADH and ALH (increases risk about 4-5x) are precursors to DCIS and LCIS (increases risk about 8-10x), but the stage below atypia, "usual hyperplasia" is not a precursor, and really only increases risk about 1.5-2x.

Thanks Anne. Just going through my final pathology and wondering. A recent paper (Jan. 2016) in Anerican Journal of Pathology suggests it should be considered a low risk precursor lesion based on a series of mutations detected. Others have suggested it's not a precursor lesion at all. There seem to be folks who are in the camp of UDH-ADH-DCIS progression, and those who are not. It's all very complex (and interesting) Didn't know how much more there was to know. If anyone was following recent research. Doesn't seem to be much looking at UDH.

Dr. Mehra Golshan at Dana Farber in Boston is studying this currently. Google him!

Yes, it's my understand that if it's usual DH, than no increase of risk. It's when the cells are "atypical" (IE not normal cell) that the risk rises. Your cells are normal cells, you just have a bunch of them (hyperplasia)

hi At 26 in 2013 I had a lumpectomy.. I was diagnosed with PASH disease UDH Fibroadenoma and I've always had polycystic breast disease. I was told to come back every six months for mammogram and ultrasound because I also had a tumor in my left breast but I could never feel it. Well five years later almost I am just now trying to get in for mammogram and ultrasound again. The tumor has grown so big I can feel it with 4 fingers together and I feel a burning sensation in the area along with rib pain as it is under my breast tissue on my left breast. I'm 31 years old. My doctor said with the amount of conditions I have I am 5xs the risk of developing breast cancer.. without insurance it's been a struggle. I want to know if anyone else has gone thru this and this amount of issues... 😔 I am always tired.. and I just left my husband about a month ago because he was cheating on me and now I'm going to this alone.
