1 week intensive (2x a day)
Haven't had lumpectomy yet but RO thinks I could be candidate for 1 week intensive (2x day for 5 days) radiation. Has anyone else done this and can tell me how it went?

Have you done this? I am considering this following my lumpectomy this Thursday. If you have, how did it go

I haven't had it yet as I have to have a second surgery this week (need to take an additional centimeter of tissue to get clean margins). I did talk to a woman who has done this protocol twice and had good things to say about it., that she took the week off of work but was not extraordinarily tired the following week when she returned to work, a little but not overwhelmingly so. I'm 62 yrs old and in otherwise excellent health and hoping for similar results (she was in her 50's). We're hoping for to do the radiation the week of Oct. 1 so will report back after that.

Thank you for your reply. Good luck with surgery. Please let me know what you think. I am deciding between this and brachytherapy

Just wanted to update you & let you know that I haven't had radiation yet as I had too much fluid in the cavity earlier. Now scheduled for the 1 week intensive in Nov. Will let you know how it goes after that.

I just finished my 5 day (2x a day) radiation treatment yesterday. Wanted to let you know that it went great. Very easy, no side effects. I made myself try to take a nap a couple days because everyone told me I was going to be tired but I never nap and didn't feel a need to. I'm 62 yrs old & exercise every day, run 3 miles 3x a week, swim a mile 4x a week. For these 5 days I had my 1st treatment at 9am, went to the gym to workout, maybe ran an errand, had lunch & went back for 2nd treatment then was busy the rest of the day and didn't feel any effects. I did use Miaderm as recommended by my RO, starting a week before treatment and he recommended continuing using it for another week or so. Have very mild redness but no pain or irritation, really barely notice it. Was able to keep running and biking though he wanted me to stay out of the pool for the week of radiation so I was thrilled to get back in the water today. I'm so glad to be done with this chapter of breast cancer. Just dealing w/the hot flashes that come from Arimidex. I would definitely recommend this protocol if you're eligible. Good luck.
