Just wanted to send you best wishes, Tri-lady 7. I'm 54, and had an excisional biopsy for a radial scar on 8/3, and within it was a small IDC, 6mm, grade 2. So the plan for lumpectomy was already made since my margins were clear, and the surgery was over before we even knew there was cancer there. I had a follow-up MRI, and thankfully nothing else looked suspicious. 2 weeks later I had 3 sentinel nodes removed, and they were clear also. Next week I travel out of state to have brachytherapy to the tumor area, so I'm now planning out that stay. It's just been a whirlwind!

Hope your wait passes quickly! Good luck.

Hi, everyone. It has been a while since I posted here. So - to update. I was tokd on Sept 8th that I have Triple Negative BC, and have found this very worrying. On Sept 13, I had a Sentonel Node Biopsy. The surgeon told me beforehand he expected the nodes to be clear, and nurses in the recovery room said he only took one. So I am on hold now until Oct 11 to get my results. I was thinking NO to chemo, but with the TNBC, it seems the only option.

Hope things go better for everyone as eachof you continue your journey.

Hi, everyone. I haven't been on for a little while, so thought I would check in and catch up. I have been thinking about you all so much and hoping things go well for you. I have now been duagnosed with TNBC, which scares me because it doesn't leave ne with much in the way of treatment options. Last week I had a sentinel node biopsy, The surgeon told me he expected the nodes to be clear, and the recovery room nurses said he only took one, so I consider that to be good news. I prob won't get results until I see him Oct 11. I do have a big lump under the incision, and am hoping it isn't too serious as I cannot get in to see the doctor until Monday. Hugs to everyone

Hi 53Nancy- I have been thinking of everyone as well. It sounds good that your surgeon expects your nodes to be clear. I will be thinking of you. I had a lumpectomy on Sept. 11 and my pathology report came back this week. My tumor actually ended up being smaller then MRI showed at 2.2 cm rather then 3 cm. However, it also came back with 2 positive nodes. I am upset but I am trying to remain focused on treatment. I see a medical oncologist on Oct. 9th to get chemo started. What a whirlwind for all of us.

Oh, Tri-lady 7, I am praying your journey goes well. My tumor was 1.3 cm but the Triple Negative status changes things for me. My only options are chemo and rads. I am in Canada and tjings don't move in a hurry here. My abnormal mammogram was five months ago. All the best; hope your chemo doesn't pull you down too much

I had my MRI April 11 and didn’t have surgery till may 25. The waiting was torture but one of the doc told me it won’t grow any more or spread anymore. Just hang in there

Lisv1010, did you have a mastectomy? My surgeon says he got it all, but am concered about stray cells, or possibly something in the other breast. Even if that lump node is clear, I wonder why he only took one. If Ihad beebngiven a choice I would have opted for double mastectomy.

my mom was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma today, oncologist says that's the most common breast cancer and can be treated with hormonal therapy and that it was highly treatable. She has had a bone scan and all is fine, CT scan and it shows a small mass on her lung and one small mass on her liver. We are nervous that these masses could be secondary cancer. We've been told that lung masses can be scar tissue from pneumonia, which she has had and that liver masses can just be cysts, but the waiting is tough. We see the oncologist next week and I assume we'll find out the stage she has, but what's next? She has no insurance it we've been told there's help available she can apply for. We have great faith in God, it's just hard to accept. Any encouraging words to help us process?

Mersmom77, so sorry to hear about your mom. Has she had had a lumpecromy, and do you know if her nodes were checked? I hope they find no cancer as a result if her scans.

I had a bone scan yesterday and now the waiting starts, I am tokd four weeks fir results. Will be having an abdominal scan but don't know when.

my mom starts chemo Friday. The oncologist told us stage IV. There's a few spots in her lung and due to the size of her breast mass (10cm) he's saying it's spread. Says he can't be 100% sure unless we do a biopsy, but he wants to do chemo first, then radiation and then hormone therapy. I'm assuming if the treatment shrinks the spots in the lung then it was cancer? It's just so much to process and I can't even begin to imagine how overwhelmed my mom feels. Dr said after the 6 cycles of chemo and radiation we'd do a "restaging" have you ever heard of that?

Mersmom77, thinking of your mom starting chemo tomorrow. I don't know about restaging downwards, but I was told that I could be restaged upwards. I was left with the impression that, with TN, I would probably be Stage 111 and was hoping for Stage II but got Stage 1. I was told that if any of the tests I had done showed any signs of cancer, that I would be upgraded from there, and they have all been negative. Keeping you in our prayers, and hoping the treatments will help your mom.

SilvyOA, so sorry for this news. You will find lots of suppoet on these forums. I didn't know anything about BC when I got my diagnosis, so wasn't prepared in any way. But I researched a lot and found this forum and it has been a tremendous help and the encouragement just pours out. The people here are my family in so many ways because they understand in a way my family never could. And there is no question you can't ask. Many hugs.

Hi new to these boards. Just diagnosed with IDC Grade 1 Stage 1 ER and PR both positive Her2 is negative. I am opting for BCS with radiation but second guessing if I should opt for mastectomy?  So confusing as to what to do.

Hi DiscoDiva. I'm glad you posted. There is lots of support here and while it is your decision we are all happy to share our experiences.

My situation sounds similar to yours. I did a lumpectomy, am currently doing radiation and then will do tamoxifen. I consulted two surgeons at two different hospitals so felt good after receiving identical recommendations. So far so good and I am happy with my choice.

Considerations include the estimated size of the tumor, your age and your family history. Perhaps getting a second opinion would help?

Thanks for your reply. It helps to talk to others. I am having the lumpectomy on Thursday hoping it is the right decision. I am 66 yrs old and in very good health otherwise. Just scared and want to have a lot more years ahead of me. Going to do radiation as well. Thanks again

Thank you for the response. I found out that my margins after my 2nd lumpectomy are not clear yet,They told me that that are going to have me start chemo first and after thateither have another lumpectomy or remove my breast.( I’m so confused) I am going for a second opinion soon before I start chemo.

Mersmom have you been able to get insurance for your mom for next year? I believe you have a few days of open enrollment left.
