US before mammogram??
So a few weeks ago my left breast started hurting. Didn't think much of it as I just started my period. I don't normally have breast pain but still thought it was from my period. While I was changing about 3 days after it started hurting I noticed a red spot above my nipple. I proceeded to do a check and thought I felt a small pea sized lump near my chest wall. The area was extremely sore. Shortly after I had a rash on breast but that went away in a few days. Also started having pain in armpit. Had to wait for Dr appt but armpit hurt quite a bit, redness kind of went away and just over all left breast felt different. Anyways Dr sent me for a diagnostic mammogram and u/s on left breast. I am 36yrs old and never had a mammogram before. So this morning was my appt and they did the u/s first because I was only 36 and if needed they would do a mammogram. Well when the tech was doing u/s she took a lot of pics, at least to me but then she checked my left armpit because of the pain I have been having there. I noticed she measured a couple of masses which I assume were my lymph nodes? She finishes up, then goes to see if they want a mamm done too. They do so I went and had that done. They only did 2 images though and I though diagnostic was more than that? The first one didn't hurt but the 2nd one hurt a ton. My armpit was jammed up in the corner of the plate and it just hurt. Anyways, my questions are.
1. Why u/s before mammogram?
2. Is it normal for them to measure lymph nodes?
I have no known history of bc in family. Thank you ladies! I am hoping I can get results tomorrow and not have to go the weekend wondering. I had this done in a hospital so not sure when radiologist will take a look at tests.

hugs friend! I'm in a similar boat, had ultrasound then mammo (I'm nursing a baby) on Monday. Have a biopsy tomorrow. I'm 39. I'm just here to say this sucks and hope for postitive results.

I had US after mammogram during mammogram I had pics in only 2 positions when I got my disc there were multiple images as well as video. Point is wait til you get your images before you worry too much. US on lymph nodes is because you had a concern of pain so not to worry sounds like there are being thorough. Best wishes for B9 results.

hoping you had a 3D! If not, consider it once you have your results. I had a mammo then us. But of both sides.
2 pictures? Did they only look at one side?

greeneyes81- yes only my left breast. 2 images. The machine was straight up and down for one then it tilted sideways for the 2nd. I have no idea if it was 3D or not.
Mucki1991- thank you, just wasn't sure if they normally measure the lymphnodes?
Sierramtngirl - thank you and good luck with your biopsy!

Rowdy, I would really question why they 1. only took two pictures on one breast (I had much more than that on my "normal" breast) and 2. why you did not get a full mammogram. And if you can't get satisfactory answers, go somewhere else. This is really hitting me personally as if this happened to me, I would still be sitting here with breast cancer and have no idea.
I went in for pain in one side, got a full 3d mammo followed by a ultrasound that was supposed to be one sided. After the mammo they called and got permission to do both sides. My cancer was in the oppisate side and ONLY found because I did a 3d. I don't want to scare you, I just feel if you are in there for one thing they should be doing a throu job.
If there is anything concerning, I would recommend an MRI as well. I am 36 too, we have dense breasts! lol My MRI found stuff that was missed in my mammo as well.
Keep us updated, very hopfull all is well!

Had a thought.....are you maybe on the smaller side? Maybe they don't take as many pictures for smaller ladies? I am DD, I had a LOT. Didn't count, but I am sure I had 5-10 on one side and even more on the other side when they started seeing the concerning lumps.

Yes, I have smallerish breasts, a good handful, C cup. I am assuming they only did the one size because of my age and the pain was just in one breast? The Dr. could not feel the lump as it was very deep and she didn't press that hard to find it. Hoping to get results tomorrow.

Gonna have to wait til at least Monday for the results.Sucks big time.

Got my results and they were normal. Still having some pain though. Only talked to the nurse over the phone. Going to get my reports and if I still have questions and still having pain will follow up with the Dr. Thanks so much ladies! Praying for all of you!
