Asking onc to switch from tamoxifen to AI
Comments
-
Long story short I want to be done with tamoxifen. I am post menopausal so going on an AI shouldn't be an issue. I have had to have a cervical biopsy, endometrial biopsy, transvaginal ultrasound and next up is a D & C. I have atypical squamous and endometrial cells. Anyway I feel tamoxifen is causing all of this and I don't want to go through this every year - not to mention my pocket book can't take it. My ob/gyn said she would put me on an AI if it were up to her.
My question is: is any of the AI's better than the other in terms of side effects? I'm sure it just depends on the individual. I had no side effects on tamoxifen. I think my MO (I have a call into her at the moment) mentioned letrozole, but was wondering if any of you had a suggestion for me. My MO wanted me on tamoxifen for 5 years to build up my bones, and then an AI for 5 years, but I think it's time to switch now.
Thanks,
Nancy

Hey Nancy - Sorry to hear of all the tamoxifen issues. After the ooph my onc started me on letrozole. She felt that was the easiest. I stuck it out for about seven months. I sincerely hope you have no issues, or at the very least “not terrible" issues. I had a complete hysterectomy earlier this year for postmenopausal bleeding. I should have done that long ago. I guess that could be an option for you if the AI is too tough. I'm not sure I'd do the ooph if I had to do it all over. My body loves estrogen.

Hi Jill - thanks for the information. Yeah I'm not happy at the moment lol. I know you've been through this too. I don't have any bleeding, but I'm not going to wait 6 months and continue on tamoxifen. I don't sit around and wait ha ha. I've thought about a hysterectomy, but I don't think I'm there yet. Ugh so annoying. I don't like any of my choices 😬. So good to hear from you. How was the wedding?

It was amazing. I hadn’t dared hope it would be so fun. Weather was perfect. I . . . I stayed up unti 2 a.m. My sister called it “epic”. Family came in from across the country. Just wishI’d had time to talk to everyone. Thanks for asking.

So glad it went well Jill. You spent a lot of time getting the yard ready for it - it was beautiful and well done. I love weddings especially the cake ha ha ha
