MRI timing for premenopausal post hysterectomy/dimple
I noticed a very subtle breast dimpling a few weeks ago on one side, noticeable only with flexion of arms. No lumps on exam although I feel that my breasts are lumpy anyways. Yesterday I noticed that my nipple slightly pulls to the area of the dimple when I am leaning forward and I do see a subtle change in contour when leaning forward. I have had occasional twinges of pain with dull ache in the same area as well as intense itching a few months ago. I saw a breast surgeon a few weeks ago who did see the dimple on exam but did not detect any other abnormalities. Diagnostic mammo and focused ultrasound on just the area of dimpling was done, both were negative. My mammos have always stated "heterogeneously dense" but have always been normal. I have never had ultrasounds done on both breasts, only the small area of concern. I do have a family history of breast cancer in multiple family members (4 cousins on mom's side only), but only distant 2nd and 3rd cousins. My 3rd cousin was BRCA +, the rest were negative.
Since I noticed the nipple deviation and change in contour when bending forward, I contacted the BS again and he has ordered an MRI for just that breast. I am 45 but I have had a hysterectomy (ovaries are still there). I am okay with having a unilateral MRI since that is the side with the abnormality but I am wondering if others have had experience with just having a one sided MRI? My other question is timing of the MRI since I don't have cycles but I am premenopausal -- do I need to inquire about blood testing to make sure I am in the right time of month for the MRI to be most effective?
Note: I also posted this in the "worried but not diagnosed" forum

dimple, double posting can get confusing, as some folks will read one post, ask questions, elicit more info from you and possible post replies that no one who just reads this thread will see. If you're getting responses there, why not delete this one and stick to that one? I have only ever had one-sided mri, so that isn't abnormal. Talk to the imaging center about timing if you are concerned. Good luck!

Thank you for the reply. I did delete my post on this thread and kept the other one. I haven't seen too many people only getting one side done so good to know that that has been your experience. I figured if both sides are in the machine they may as well look at both but I do know there are a lot of false positives. I feel likeit would be good to compare sides though. I am fine getting a unilateral MRI at this point as I only have symptoms on the one breast. Just worry that if they find something, I will have to go back and get the other one done potentially.
