    had my double mx w expanders yesterday. Everything went well but I am sore! It is difficult to get around but hasn't even been 24 hours yet. Just trying to sleep as much as possible. I would agree with things I've heard that the ALNd site is the most painful. Good luck to you all

    I am scheduled for a segmental mastectomy and mastopexy on non-cancer side on Halloween (10-31-17) at MD Anderson. I'm extremely nervous.

    Anyone else having surgery on Halloween? Or at MD Anderson?

    I have my lumpectomy on the 11th. I'm very nervous because my right arm has been oddly sore before diagnosis and they tell me it shouldnt be related. This surgery will also tell me if it has spread. Good luck everyone on their Oct. Surgeries. Well wishes!

    Alright Kahnartist! I just saw your from Chicago, me too! I'm out in the burbs now, Ihad all my pre-surgery labs today. Maybe it's just me but now I'm getting nervous. I want it over with but I've never had surgery. Hope everyone is doing good either waiting or recovering

    Bnbmama, I will also have my surgery on 10/26. I'm having a bilateral mastectomy. I was told I would be off work approx 4 weeks.

    Just got my surgery date confirmed!! Monday Oct. 16 for a bilateral mastectomy and sentinel biopsy on both breasts. I am very nervous but also looking forward to getting this surgery. I am not normally a worrier but now I seem to be worrying about other "aches and pains" means the cancer has spread.

    Anyone else with these same worries?

    Yes Kim! Same worries here. Before my diagnosis I felt great! Now everything is Cancer. I've told both my oncologist and my surgeon these fears. They are both sure it hasn't. They are convinced it's not smart enough. It's big and dumb they both say. What if itstarts getting smarter! See that's easy to do. The cancer worry gets in my head and plays games with my common sense. So this weekend is my 14 year old daughter homecoming dance. We are going to lunch then hair, makeup and pictures!!! Try and find a nice distraction! This is hard but you can do it!

    Thank you Meshell5324....Distraction is so helpful and enjoying time with family is the best kind of distraction! I hope you had an awesome time with your daughter. I have always tried to live by the idea " making memories" rather than having "stuff".

    Thank you for this group. Every time I come to this community I find tons of useful information and amazing women that inspire me :) I just finished my last round of chemo about three weeks ago. I will be having a double mastectomy with reconstruction. Meeting with my surgeon right now and waiting to have surgery scheduled. The waiting is this the worst part!! I'm anxious to have a surgery date and move forward with the next stage.

    I wasn't sure where to post at. I just had my lumpectomy this morning and I'm in a lot of pain. The pain is worse than it was at the hospital and I guess that's because the anesthesia has worn off. I read somewhere to get the danskin zip front sports bra and I did. It hurts to not have a bra on but I'm so uncomfortable even with it on I tried the ice for 2 minutes but it hurt to have anything on it. What is a good way to find relief? I guess the first few days are going to be the worse..

    Hi,

    My mastocemy is October 25. Having a nipple sparring mastocemy with direct to implant. I'm ready to get this over with and be in recovery.

    I'm sad I'll be recovery during Halloween. It's one of of my favorite holidays to go out with friends!

    I posted this on another post that I posted, but it seems to make more sense to post it here. I'm having my lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy tomorrow morning. Very nervous and anxious to have it done.

    Hi everyone! I had a left MX in Jan. 2016, followed by a prophylactic MX of the right side and then reconstruction last October. I'm going in tomorrow for an oopharectomy (ovaries) and fat grafting around my implants, and just wanted to pop in to give you all some encouragement. For me, the anxiety of having the MX was way worse than the surgery itself. One thing that really helped me when I had the MX was having a paravertebral block placed before surgery. It blocked the pain for about 24 hours after surgery. Also, be sure to take your pain meds on schedule rather then waiting for the pain to start. Hope this helps!

    You're welcome ladies! I hope it works as well for you. For my first MX the pain level never exceeded 1 on a scale of 1-10. For my second MX I had more shoulder pain. I think I was trying to do too much computer work and using the mouse with my right had seemed to exasperate the pain. I switched to a roller ball mouse that I could keep on my lap - no arm movement! That helped a lot.

    If you are interested, look up Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS). It is a different approach to anesthesia that eliminates hard narcotics and is much easier on the body. No nausia, very little pain after you wake up. I believe it was a game changer for my surgery and made recovery so much easier. After 6 surgeries in 2 years, some aspects of this approach, such as drinking clear fluids like Gatorade 2 hours before surgery, is now standard protocol at Johns Hopkins. But be sure to check with your surgeon and anesthesiologist before making any changes.

    I had my surgery yesterday. Oopharectomy and fat grafting. Not too much pain today, just a bit sore. I took some tramadol last night to sleep but switched to Tylenol today so that I wouldn't have to deal with constpation.

    I am having a bilateral mastectomy with tissue expander placement on 10/25. IDC and DCIS (both grade 2) in left breast and prophylactic on right breast due to LCIS dx in 2003 and family history.

    I was diagnosed with LCIS in 2003 when I was 25, but always told 'it's not real cancer don't worry about it'. I have kept up with mammograms since that time, including one last November that was 'clear'. In February I noticed blood in the left cup of my bra every once in a while. In August I became scared and contacted a breast surgeon. Come to find out I have IDC and 'several areas of DCIS' that cover an 8 cm area. I am so full of questions and doubts. How did this happen in a 9 month time span? I am so discouraged right now but this website has been an absolute Godsend. Thank you ladies and please know I pray for you all.

    I have an appointment with my BS tomorrow. I'm nervous. I think things are healing OK, but I'm glad he's going to check it tomorrow. I've been calling his office a lot with questions and worries since the surgery. He's planning to take out half my staples tomorrow. My drains will have to stay in a little longer.

    Hello all,

    I'm back. I'm wanting to take a shower, but I can't really remember, can I leave the gauze? I hate looking at stuff like this. And it's itching (not horribly, but itchy..) is that okay? Before I call the office and while I have you all here... :D Surgery went well, they did remove 1 node that looked puffy, hoping to get pathology today. We'll see. :D Back to work on Monday and daughter comes home tomorrow from Grandmas. :) Must keep her from wanting to jump on me.

    Hello everyone. Saw my surgeon today for pathology and chemo did a good job! It did the "Swiss cheese" thing to my tumor so only small bits of scattered cancer were left and micrometastases in 3 nodes. I'll never know the full extent of my lymph nodes which does bother me but either way chemo helped clear them up. My surgeon told me that they would have never been able to biopsy my 1 suspicious node back in April if it was micro at the time.

    My problem now is I have the webbing or cording in my right arm. Very slight and dr said it will probably clear up when I start my exercises. I can't start them until Friday though. Anyone else get this? It's definitely a bit painful when I try to raise the arm shoulder height.

    Hi All, I am scheduled to have a bilateral mastectomy (Skin & Nipple saving) this Friday, October 20th. I have Invasive Ductal Carcinoma, triple negative, w/ BRCA2+. I found out the middle of September... Last week, I got scared and cancelled the Reconstruction part during the Mastectomy, where the Plastic Surgeon would be putting in expanders. After speaking to my very supportive husband, surgeon and nurses,they spoke to me about the risks... and now I realize that I was reading too much on the internet that fueled my fears. I am happy to have found this group to read what you all have shared. I will keep you all in my prayers as your surgery dates approach! We got this!

    Today is my nuclear shot appointment and I am so nervous. Tomorrow is bmx. I want it to be the weekend already so this part is over. They should put you to sleep right after diagnosis so you don’t have to deal with any of this. Good luck to all you loves
