Tamoxifen & Yeast infections?
I have been on Tamoxifen for just over a year. I have been experiencing yeast infections repeatedly. The only change in my lifestyle is that I have been taking Tamoxifen.
I haven't been diligent in taking it as the other side effects are enough to drive me crazy, but wondering if the Tamoxifen can make a person have yeast infections.
I hope I am not the only person that is dealing with this and if I am not any words of advice?

Hi kkr1026 - I have been on tamoxifen for 2.5 years. In September I had a follow up pap and my ob/gyn decided to check for yeast. She checked 3 different kinds (who knew?). I came pack positive for Gadnerella. Never had this problem before, but have no idea if tamoxifen caused it.

Really?!?!?!? WOW! So this could be a thing then. I have a call into my ob/gyn as I was treated last week at the urgency room for a severe yeast infection with 1 dose Diflucan. But I don't think it is working. Just not feeling right. I am hoping I can get this taken care of and figured out. Everything with me was just fine until BC came into my life and it has been horrible since when it comes to health stuff.
Thanks Nancy!

you're welcome. Was the type of yeast you had determined? diflucan is good stuff, but I was given something else for the type of yeast I had.

Gardnerella is a bacterial infection and not a type of yeast infection. The treatment is different - using antibiotics instead of antifungals.
-
Sometimes I think that every problem we have, and had before BC, is blamed on Tamoxifen or the Als. Sigh.
-
That where I typically end up going...down that hole that Tamoxifen is to blame. I just don't know how it couldn't' be blamed. I was 100% healthy before all this stuff. I was at my ob/gyn this morning and sure enough the yeast infection hadn't quite gone away. Another dose of Diflucan on it's way. I told her that I have NEVER been to the Dr this much before in my life! Ridiculous! Now I get to go back in this afternoon as I have been having pain on the left side where there is possibly a cyst on an ovary. Why me?!?!

Kkr, I'm not saying it isn't possible. But it seems that people blame every little ache, pain, inflammation etc. of these drugs. I've had a few yeast infections throughout my life. They all happened BEFORE I went on Tamoxifen. I've had NONE since going on the drug. Just saying.
-
Oh I get it...I just haven't had any issues before this drug. We are the opposite. LOL
I just want to get it all figured out so I get just be healthy once again.
-
No problem. As I said, it absolutely could be the Tamoxifen, but not necessarily. For instance, I know when I don't drink enough water I am particularly susceptible to yeast infection.
-
I blame everything on tamoxifen lol. Well everything related to my uterus. II have to blame something ha ha. At the moment I am having abnormal pap smears and yep I blame tamoxifen. What else could it be? I have had to have an endometrial biopsy, cervical biopsy, transvaginal ultrasound and still no answers as to why I am having atypical squamous and endometrial cells. So yeah I blame tamoxifen for this.
