just found out I have osteoporosis
Hi Everyone,
well I can add this news to the pile of bad news I have had the past few months. I'm so ready to hear some good news for a change!! I had a bilateral MX on 8/22 due to breast cancer in my left breast. The good news on that end was it had not spread yet to my lymph nodes. The oncologist wanted to start me on the hormone blocker drug since my cancer was ER+. I had the start of osteopenia back in 2008 so he ordered another bone scan. I got the results today and I am now into osteoporosis. Has anyone gone through any type of treatment with osteoporosis? Chemo has not been ruled out yet as he also just ordered the oncotype test too. waiting on those results. I see the oncologist on the 26th of this month.

I am borderline osteoporosis. I took Arimidex the first year I was DX in 2011. I found out it attacked the bones so my MO switched me to Tamoxifen. My last bone density exam 2 years ago was k and I'm scheduled for another one next month. I take Boniva once a month and my internist advised adding calcium tablets even though my numbers are normal.
My gynecologist told me if I have a fall I might not come back from it. Yikes that's scary. I exercise in some fashion constantly. I also do my due diligence eating/drinking stuff with calcium.
I've been told it is reversible.

I just found this out yesterday, also. Go GP tomorrow to see if I will also be taking Prolia along with calcium and vitamin D.

I've got osteoporosis, too. I just found out this June. (I was osteopenic two years ago when I started my AI.) So far, I'm still on Aromasin. But, I'm also on Fosamax now, and continue with my calcium supplements twice a day.
I'm 50 years old, and otherwise in good shape. If I were older and more fragile, I'd be more concerned.

Add me to this wonderful list. Found out this summer. Have an endo appt soon -- and we'll see what they say. Was not really surprising because I had osteopenia already and am very petite. Just hate that it limits my choices of anti-hormone perhaps. (Although I'm peri-M, so on Tamoxifen at the moment.) There is some research that Prolia protects against bone mets. (I think I read on here somewhere.) So that is something maybe.
