Well you look like a pile of fall leaves yourself! Fun!
-
Shepkitty - got to read your stories - you killed da mouse? Her friend? Ohhhhhhhhhhh. My daughter had a pet mouse that my pet skunk killed. Another story. Long day ahead. Hubby waiting.
And that SleepFairy I will do without. Creepy guy. I like sheep. This is a painint I love, don't know if I am allowed to post someone's painting but found it loose online so I will.
-
Susie - I think it is a photograph - The Sheep Fairies. grin
Am in Indiana - weather cannot decide is it July or October. But think that period is past now. Nights are very cool though, that is nice.
-
Now MammaRay, how are you going to smile in that face mask? Ha! Silly girl! Tried to laugh in it before...very uncomfortable. Wonder how people who have Botox manage.
Blue, I really hope the amitriptyline works for you. 🤞 Hopefully, at a low dose it doesn't dry you up too much. Love the changes in colors and the smell of autumn. I don't know why but the picture of the sheep made me laugh. I wonder what they were staring at. I am glad y'all can't read my mind.
Susie, what a blessing you got to visit MammaRay. How are you doing? And DD?
Junieb, I have been watching at least 1 or 2...well maybe 3 or 4 of Jeanne Robertson video a day. Sooo I am on the search for humor in daily life experiences and stressful situations. Ha! Thank you for introducing us to her. I love this one:
-
My husband must be left brained. He doesn't get her humor
-
Today I had 2 doctors appt. in Portland and my friend who is a nurse at the hospital picked me up at 5:45 this morning. I had to get up at 4:15 though and hadn't slept well at all. Anyway, my plan originally was to finish by 11:00 and get to the Amtrak station to catch the 1:00 p.m. bus back home. Well I'm not sure how I got the idea that there even was a 1:00 bus, but there's NOT. I had to wait at the train station until 3:40, then it took and hour and a half to get back to town and another 45 min. to get to my front door. By this time it is 6:00 p.m and poor Kirby had been home by himself for 12 hours. I was so sure I'd find at least a puddle of pee when I got home, but to my amazement my precious boy had managed to hold it. However he did drown the tree he peed on once outside. Such a loooong day!
My pillow is calling my name for sure.
Shep - Sorry I took so long to get back to you. I sent you what I promised.
Loverly - Regarding your strange fruit, the only way I'd get within a city block of it is if you could somehow mask the odor first. You are much braver than I am. I also watched Jeanne Robertson's video "Don't go to Vegas without A Baptist". It was hilarious. Sorry, but my masseuse is booked through the rest of the year and already started booking into 2018. I don't know how she keeps her hands from developing arthritis with the number of clients she sees weekly. But so glad I found her.
MammaRay - You looked quite relaxed in your chair with your mask on. I love the bright colors of the quilt you're covered with. All Kaffe Fassett fabrics in it. He is one of my favorite fabric designers, along with Amy Butler & Tula Pink.
M0mmy - Is your cold any better?
Blue - I sure hope what Sassy suggested will be a huge help for you so you can have some relief of your symptoms. I really like that photo of the sheep & tree.
Well my brain has just gone on hiatus for the night, so I will wish you all a peaceful sleep and we'll meet here again tomorrow.
-
Couldn't resist this one.
-
And then there are the cows.
We have a herd near here and we stop and play our CDs for them, their ears do the same thing. Funny!
Here's part of the herd.
Went to bed and coughed and carried on then fell asleep for 2 min and woke up with a dry throat and a coughing seizure for 20 min so up and drinking hot water. 3:15 here. ugh. -
I know, some of those are NOT cows. hahaha
-
Where is everyone? We all can't be quiet at the same time.
-
*Good Morning Owlettes*
The following was taken from Facebook.
A neighbor took (2) Fall pics of the AuSable River near my childhood home.
The neighbor also took (1) Fall pic of the AuSable River near our home.
Daughter chose a lovely begonia plant that continues to bloom in the outdoor planter box.
Son thinks the begonia bloom looks like a sculpted peach.
-
Junie, I asked one masseuse the same question regarding tired hands and she told me that the strength doesn't come from the fingers or hands but from the body.
It is not uncommon to find no durian signs in hotels, public transports, and taxis in Southeast Asia.
As I mentioned earlier, DH loves durians. One time when we were in Singapore we inadvertently carried a durian on the bus. Didn't realize it until a few minutes into the ride. You can clearly smell it. Thank goodness most people were carrying groceries too. I was so worried that someone would figure out it was us. We sat still for fear that any movement would cause a draft. You won't believe how've fast we got off the bus when we arrived at our destination.
-
Oh Teka, beautiful photos!
-
Blue, the cows seem so sweet. We have cows near where we live too. I always feel guilty walking pass them. No beef jerky or steak for a few days.
-
Kath, DH has a weird sense of humor too. Most of the times he doesn't understand why I find something funny.
-
ShepK, sorry we didn't get a chance to giggle.
My attempt to be creative. Haha! Wish the phone takes better night photos.
-
Thank You!!
)
-
Lover that is so funny that you mention that diff sense of humour thing.
My DD telling me something that she and DH found funny this morning.
Me: laughing.
Her: You're laughing? I didn't think you would find that funny.
Me: I don't! I'm laughing at you and Dad finding that funny.
-
MammaRay, such sound advice about the pictures. Hope you wake with less of a stiff neck
-
Thank You!!

Hi have a beautiful Sunday. Enjoying all the pictures. Never heard of cows liking music. It's a wonder the don't pipe it into cow barns especially at milking time. Makes me wonder if it would affect milk production.
-
Yup music in the cow "parlor" does affect production
https://modernfarmer.com/2014/02/milking-music/
Waterbeds, chiropractic, and massages, as well as music
The logical next question: "Has milk production in humans and music" been studied?
YES!
Very nice study. This was a very well done study. Milk in moms were shown to increase by 2-3x's more
https://scienceofmom.com/2012/04/12/pump-up-the-music-improving-breast-milk-production-in-the-nicu/
-
Well, along the same route. I ducked "Music and sleep and melatonin and oxytocin"
http://www.caltech.edu/news/research-suggests-brains-melatonin-may-trigger-sleep-45860
They didn't actually study music in this study, but it did mention something that caught my eye. In one group of zebra fish they gave a drug to kill the pineal gland which has been shown to alter sleep. But they didn't say what the drug was.
My question is "Do we take any drugs that kill or alter the pineal gland?" I left a message on the Caltech research coordinator line.
Looking for drugs and if there is a connection to cancer
-
The pineal gland is related to the production of melatonin. There is a fair amount to research being done on it's relationship to cancer. Some of the research itself, could be used to induce sleep.
There is an upswing of melatonin production in early evening. But the production is impacted by light. Light can delay it's production.
That's a problem for many here. We use the computers a lot. We are suppressing our melatonin production.
This link tries to list facts known about melatonin and cancer. Dosing it states is to start at 3-6 mg and work up. But there are studies that say the impact on primary and metastatic cancers is in the 10mg-30mg range. Taken 60-90 minutes before a regular bedtime. Which of course our regular bedtimes aren't even close to anything normal
The one cancer where it's identified that melatonin supplement NOT be used is Leukemia.
I'm going to list the studies that I find have relevance.
Laypersons' list of Melatonin use.
https://www.canceractive.com/cancer-active-page-link.aspx?n=1242
This is a broad look at melatonin and a large number of cancers. It's not an easy read. But it does show that there is a connection between melatonin and early cancers. It also, discusses metastatic breast cancer and melatonin use having a stabilizing affect and increase in I year survival. Plus, a reduction in associated negative affects.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK6233/
This fela Vanderhoot from Boca Raton analysis six studies and gives his opinion. His opinion is at the end of each section
http://cescos.fau.edu/observatory/lightpol-melatonin.html
My Conclusion
1. Check with your doc about taking Melatonin. Usual dosing is 3-6 mg. Cancer dosing is 10-30 mg
2. Establish a bedtime that you are religious about keeping.
3. Take your melatonin 60-90 minutes before bedtime. Pay attention to sleepiness signals and go to bed
4. Turn your electronics off when taking the melatonin. The eye has retinal sensors that are attuned to the lights of electronics. The white light. It's called Light ____________(forget). TV light has been mentioned elsewhere, but not in any of these articles.

Chit the conclusion went to the computer netherworld. DAMN. Probably because I said at one point to turn the computer off. Chit.
Computer not behaving I'll have to finish later
-
LoverofLife - I feel the same way about all meat, even seafood. I partake pretty seldom and always w guilt and abhorrence. Asa kid my mom would have me run the meat grinder for ham salad or bologna salad and I was creaming inside ohgnooooooooooooooo so.... I should be a vegetarian. But I also feel guilty taking the life of a plant, the fruit of it no, but to pull a 'weed' just kills me. I cannot step on bugs either.
MY Hubby has a dark sense of humor or just gross, imo. Dark example. An exterminator we had check a possible home for us was a month later found shot to death on the side of a country road. Really. We were to lunch w our real estate agent when she told us. Hubby asked, "Well, did anyone talk to the termites?" And they busted out laughing. I was flabbergasted.
Slept through the night last two. Yesterday started doses of black cumin seed oil for lung inflammation and other stuff going on. Also dandelion tea. And drop of lobelia essence when the cough hits me. I am determined if no one dr will try to do something and do it right then I will figure it out and fix myself. I feel up to it right now, sometimes was too sick to think or type. If only that could be done w the cancer.
omg I just typed all this w/o having a coughing seizure, never happens! Progress.
-
Sas - you said, "Some of the research itself, could be used to induce sleep." made me laugh. Been reading a lot of studies and reports. Snore.
Funny how your brain always goes to the question and answer phase of any conversation, it's great.
I used to take melatonin, my endo said I needed it. I took 8 mcg before bed, right before. Guess earlier is more advisable. I always sleep in a completely dark room, no machines not even a clock or mirror. Well, a fan for white noise if the peepers aren't singing. I stopped and don't know why for sure. Guessing it had to do w not being able to sleep it off and being too groggy sometimes when I had to get up early. I know, to bed earlier and take less, would help.
I read that for cancer patients who have anxiety and/or pain the melatonin dose is high so to help them sleep and relax naturally, the body's natural hormone at work. It was a good place to begin and combine with pain mediation.
Oh - I have lost messages on the boards and if I go back to the page I was on, which would be the message before it went through, usually the message I typed has been there. But I don't think that is what you meant by lost.
Love the river photos. And the river name.
And yes, the begonia does look like a scupted peach to me too.
-
Thank You!!

A rainy and windy morning, but a lovely afternoon for ongoing outdoor Fall clean-up.

karentwriter, Hi and Welcome!!
May you receive excellent results from the lumpectomy on the 11th............then a speedy recovery.
Please keep us in the loop.
(1) more thing............
I joined the threads on (February 18, 2010)............jumped right in............silly me as a newbie laid awake many nights worrying that my public post or public posts might get me booted from a thread or the threads.
-
OH TEKA, I was a newbie in 2010 too. The first thread I "jumped "in on was a disaster. Foobville. I was clueless. It was a completely ill match. My very first post was a disaster and it had to be sorted out. I stayed awhile until I found another thread. I look back aaand think Oh MY.
That's part of why I spent years guiding newbies. Threads have a character. A cadence. Break the Character and cadence and it can be a mess.
Blue " Sas - you said, "Some of the research itself, could be used to induce sleep." made me laugh. Been reading a lot of studies and reports. Snore." OMD studies can just be so so so entangled. AND then you run onto a phrase that is exciting. Then following the exciting phrase is work. Keep the synapses working until I can disentangle it. Work.
THEN have the computer wipeout my conclusion. That was the synthesis of several hours of reading. Gone. Then delay me b/c the computer had connection problems. CHIT. Those synthesis thoughts that at one time would have been mine forever. Well, not now.
