Hi, I just tested positive for BRCA 1, and am looking for recommendations for a plastic surgeon in Pittsburgh that does direct to implant reconstruction. I've met with a few surgeons but am completely overwhelmed. Thank you for your help!!

Hi there. So sorry you are going through this. To start IMO its very important to get treated at a major university teaching hospital. I had direct to implant reconstruction in NYC. The most important factor in deciding on a PS is that they have a lot of experience doing this type of reconstruction. Good luck and keep us posted...

Thank you. If you don't mind me asking, where did you have your surgery done? Are you happy with your results? I would like to avoid expanders and a second surgery if possible. I have met with Dr. James O'toole, who was a chief resident at Long Island Plastic Surgery group in NY before opening his practice in Pittsburgh. He says he is very experienced in direct to implant. I have also met with Dr. Delacruz, PS at UPMC Magee, which is a university teaching hospital, but she prefers to use expanders. I have another appointment with PS Dr. Gimble (works in same group with Delacruz) to get his opinion. I just want to make sure I find someone who is really experienced, as you suggested. Thanks again for your support!

Hi. I used Dr. Christine Rohde from Columbia University Medical Center in NYC. She is a brilliant surgeon. I also wanted to avoid the TEs, fills and second surgery. She told me she would give it her best shot and couldn't guarantee a size. I went from a DD to a full C. I didn't need any revision surgery. It took me a while to get used to being smaller but I'm OK with it now. Let me know if you have any other questions. Good luck..

Thanks so much for the info. I'm hoping I get some posts from Pittsburgh ladiesabout UPMC surgeons, but perhaps I will have to look at the bigger cities like yours. Thanks again!

Hello! I realize this is an old thread, but I am currently looking into plastic surgeons in the Pittsburgh area and I’m wondering who you ended up going with and if you’re happy with the results! Thanks so much
