Lactating Adenoma that hasn't gone away?
hi,
The reason for my post is I want to see if any of you have had an experience similar to mine. Did you have a lactating adenoma and find out it was cancer later ? Or was the cancer masked by it ?
2 months before I was supposed to have my son, they found a 3 cm mass in my left breast. They said I should do a biopsy but wanted to wait until I was done breastfeeding. Well they ended up doing the biopsy a month after I was done nursing. They only did a f and a biopsy because my milk ducts weren't completely dried up and the risk of infection. They told me that they would let me know the biopsy results very soon and said they only sent samples out for a second opinion if the sample was abnormal or malignant. Well they ended up sending mine out and I finally got results back 2 weeks later. They said they thought it was a lactating adenoma.
2 months later they had me come back in to look at the lump and it had gone down slightly so they did not do a full core biopsy. They asked me to come in again later.
Now it has been 9 months since I have been nursing and the "lactating adenoma" is still there. It was my understanding that it would disappear after nursing. It's been nearly a year and it's still there.
In addition to that, I have noticed my armpit is swollen and I am now having pain in that same breast that radiates to my armpit.I had discharge come out of the breast last week. I have this gut feeling that something is wrong.
I met with a doctor today. She looked at it today and said that the armpit swelling could be due to hormonal changes but I pushed for another ultrasound. I'm a little upset they didn't do more tests.
If it was a lactating adenoma in the first place wouldn't it have disappeared by now ? I'm worried they might have misdiagnosed it before. Why would I have a throbbing swollen armpit and pain now? Almost a year later.. It makes no sense.
Are my concerns valid or am I just being paranoid?
Please help!!!

Has it changed in size between the time it was found and now? In 9 months most cancers would have shown an increase in size.
You said you pushed for an ultrasound. Was that done already or will you be having it in the near future? They need to re-image the LA and compare its size and appearance with the prior exam and also examine the lymph nodes under the arm with the swelling. While they are there they should look at the vessels in your axilla as a clot in the veins there could cause pain and swelling unrelated to the LA.

yes she did another ultrasound today and said they would call back with results tomorrow. She didn't check my armpit too much just mainly looked at it. It's sore and tender. My left supraclavicular node (the node between the clavical bone and shoulder ) is sore and swollen as well. The pain and swelling has increased the last couple of weeks. The armpit swelling started about 3 months ago

How are you doing? What did the ultrasound show?
I have a lactating adenoma as well, and it's painful. I'm nursing a four-month-old.
Your concerns are not paranoid at all! It's wonderful that you're aware of what is going on in your body, and sought help when felt something was wrong!

I recently found a mass in my left breast as I began to wean from breastfeeding. It's been almost three weeks since I've completely stopped and it's still there. I was hoping by now it would have dried up/gone away. I had an ultrasound done today but the dr wants to wait a month to monitor the lump before completing a biopsy. His undetermined diagnosis was lactating adenoma. My concern is that it surfaced at the conclusion of breastfeeding... hoping you received some positive results!

I’m sorry to hear that Jpm534. I know how nerve wracking and scary it is especially when you have a brand new little one. Congratulations by the way. I hope things improve for you. Glad to hear it’s nothing too serious. Please keep me updated!
As for what’s going on with me. After looking at my last ultrasound they said the lump (lactating adenine hadn't changed) that was a year ago. They told me if I noticed any changes to come back. Well now I found another lump. I went in and the doctor said it's the size of a half dollar. She seems concerned because i also told her that I have been having terrible night sweats every night to the point of having to change the sheets everyday. she took a blood test and cancer test was negative and thyroid is negative. After waiting 2 years and pushing for a mammogram I am finally getting one on Friday. I'm pretty nervous. I have this terrible feeling. I'm so tired all the time. I just don't feel like myself. I'm getting a 3D mammogram so I'm praying I finally get answers. The “lactating Adenona”is still there.
