Just diagnosed, lump is small
I am 44 and was just diagnosed with IDC. The radiologist told me the lump is only about 1/2 cm (1/4 inc). I am waiting to see the surgeon/oncologist. Is there anyone in a similar situation. What treatments did you have?

I'm no expert, so keep that in mind. My tumor ended up being 5mm and my nodes were clear. I had a lumpectomy, which requires radiation. I am also doing taxol and herceptin, but I was right on the border of whether or not that was necessary based on the size of my tumor. I decided to do it because I'm her2 positive and my KI67 was 96%, which is extremely high. Most MOs only consider the KI67 number an issue if it's over 20%, so even though some facilities don't take that number into consideration at all, due to possible inaccuracies, I felt like it needed to be considered.
My final decision was based on my fear that something tiny may have escaped into my body and could be growing and metastasizing. But each situation is unique and individual. There are people here with so much more knowledge than me. They'll most likely comment soon. The experience and education here was a lifesaver to me.
I hope things go well for you. Will you have a needle biopsy and an MRI done?

so far I have had a core needle biopsy and that is it. Waiting (and waiting ) to see the surgeon on Wednesday to get more information. Thank you!

Mine is 7mm, so also very small. Lumpectomy scheduled for 9/22. We are very lucky to catch it early! Lots of factors will determine your recommended treatments. Do you know the pathology of the tumor? Being triple positive, I believe I will have chemo, radiation, and targeted therapy (herceptin and tamoxifen). Everything will be confirmed post op, once the path report from the lymph nodes is back. Right now, there does not appear to be lymph node involvement, but only a biopsy can provide a definitive answer.
It's quite a whirlwind, isn't it? One day everything is fine. The next, you have cancer. Hard to wrap your brain around it, especially if you don't physically feel sick. Surreal.

I initially was diagnosed IDC but after surgery was dx ILC. Apart from that mine was 7mm. ER/PR+ and HER2- . Stage 1 Grade 1. I opted for a BMX due to my sister having had BC and not wanting the increased surveillance of every 6months of mammo/sono etc. No rads. No chemo(Onoctypedx came back at 9 to seal the deal) . Just started Tamoxifen.
Waiting to know all the prognostic factors stinks. Once you know you can start a plan. Good luck.

So much waiting. I had my MRI (I was told the results would be back in two days. I had the MRI done Friday so I figured by Tuesday. I found out Wednesday at 4:20 PM) and a suspicious mass was found. Today I am waiting to for someone to call and schedule a biopsy for this thing they found. I feel paralyzed. I'm not working today so I am basically sitting on my couch waiting for the phone to ring. The main tumor they found is small (.531 cm), ER+, PR+, and Her 2-. So that's good, but now waiting to find out about this new spot.
