Insomnia!!!!
I sleep. A lot. A lot a lot. I actually consider it one of my predaignosis red flags. I have always been a sleeper but this exhaustion was a little more excessive than even I would call normal.
That said, I was diagnosed last week and now I keep waking up at 3:00 am. Sometimes I can fall back asleep until my alarm, but over the last several days, I just get up and use the time to research on here or read other materials and shop for surgery check list items.
I can't stay awake at work (they frown upon napping at our desks 😂) and I feel crappy and anxious.I am hoping it is going to normalize. But what if it doesn't?! I'm going to go insane.
I'm sure I am not alone. Anyone have any non drug tips?! I can drug myself but that isn't sustainable. Thanks.

Kahnartist, OMG I am just like you and unfortunately no answer for you. I was up at 3 today, tossed and turned till 3:30 befits giving up. A friend suggested veviter essential oil or lavender essential oil diffused at night. I will try this tonight! I am wondering if I force myself to stay up late would that help? Looking forward to hearing some tips from others.

vampeyes,
I drugged myself last night and slept til 6:30. I highly recommend it. Ha. I hope you are doing ok.

same here. I strongly recommend ambien. It knocked me out. I only used it for a week, but then my sleep pattern went back to normal. Have you dr. Write a prescription for you. Everyone will benefit from it. Plus, you will have a clear head to make adequate decisions. If you don't want ambien, then I suggest trying Melatonin from Whole Foods with a dose of lavender oil diffusing next to your bed. That was my second go to afternoon stopping the ambien. Here's to healthy, restful sleep!

rrobin0020,
Does it help
Does it help You stay asleep? I can fall asleep pretty much anywhere but I keep waking up. I want it
-
Kahnartist, do you do anything special to fall asleep? Or does it just happen?
I do visualizations to relax and to fall asleep and it helps me fall and stay asleep. I need drugs for my anxiety during the day, but falling asleep at night is no problem. I'm thinking since you fall asleep easily, maybe you can do the same to fall back asleep if you wake up during the night.

hi farawaytoo
I do nothing. I close my eyes and fall asleep. I'm always tired. When I have been waking up my brain goes nuts and I think it is impossible to turn it off. The last two nights I have taken something so while I am a zombie, I slept. So glad I took is the weeekwnd

Try a white noise machine. They have various sounds, rain, waves lapping, fire crackling, or just the buzz from a fan.

I was like that every day until my surgery. the BEST sleep I got was at my surgery! You're going to be just fine once the ball gets rolling. Don't worry because your feelings and responses are like every one of us on here!

I've been using Melatonin for many years to help me sleep and wake up w/o feeling drugged. Before my dx, 1 mg of Melatonin would help me fall asleep and sleep through the night. But since my dx, I needed a little more.
Now I take 3 mg to 5 mg of Melatonin and I use the time-release type. I also sometimes take Zzzquil, which is non-habit forming. ZZZquil is just liquid Benadryl (Diphenhydramine HCI). With Zzzquil, I also wake up w/o feeling drugged. Zzzquil has alcohol and non-alcohol formulas.
I've been really itchy lately (I assume it from the Herceptin), so I take Zzzquil instead of benadryl before going to bed. It puts me to sleep quickly and I don't scratch in my sleep.
