Looking for Pinktober Alternative buttons, shirts, charities
My family wants to wear alternative buttons or shirts this October. Does anyone have suggestions or links on where to get some asap?
We want to promote "awareness" that pink picnics and marketing end up contributing very little money toward finding a cure, even though around 30 percent of early stagers progress to stage iv/metastatic through no fault of their own, and some are stage iv at diagnosis. (These are the people made invisible in the typical awareness campaign, and the ones who die of the disease.) We want people to know that this disease is not fun, cute, sexy, or a great free boob job.
Also, once people get this message, we would like to be able to suggest a couple organizations they can donate to that will actually use their donation to help find better stage iv treatments and eventually a cure.

I saw this tshirt a couple of days ago. It might work for you? There's only about a week left in the campaign though. http://www.booster.com/mbcntshirt "Stage IV needs more". It doesn't address the problems with pink, but it might be enough to start a conversation. Proceeds go to Metastatic Breast Cancer Network.
I always suggest Metavivor for donations. 100% of donations go to metastatic research.
Hope that helps. Good luck!

Kebab, Your link was organized by Katherine O'Brien, our EnglishMajor! Always thinking of her, I hope that she is doing as well as possible!

I got one of these. Again, maybe not exactly what you're looking for, but a better message than pink ribbons, and I really like the saying on the back.

Thanks for starting this topic! We all need to keep up the protest against Pinktober and pinking.

No help in regards alternative organizations, but just following with interest.

Most of these shirts I've posted are designed by men and women who actually have cancer. The sales of the shirts help the artists out directly or will have a portion of their proceeds donated directly to raise funds for patient services and research!
Shirts are available in different styles and colors and price ranges. The companies that sell the shirts will send discount codes and sale info if you sign up for their newsletters. I've posted the direct links to the shirts below each design.

I'm sorry for what I said when I was on Prednisone

⭐ The above shirt is from MedTees.com and has the Best designs! Very Generous with charitable donations too

StandUp2Cancer is a great way to support cancer research. I did some research of my own a couple years ago when I was looking for a good place to make donations.
Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) goal is to accelerate innovative cancer research that will get new therapies to patients quickly and save lives now. SU2C it brings together researchers and encouraging collaboration instead of competition among the entire cancer community.
They have two new types of scientific grant.
Dream Team Grants are awarded to multi-institutional groups of scientists who work collaboratively, rather than competitively, to develop new treatments quickly in order to save lives now.
Innovative Research Grants support groundbreaking cancer research projects that are high-risk but could also be high-impact, and have the potential to significantly affect patient care.
They do projects on all types of cancer, including breast cancer. One of the major projects they are working on focuses on understanding breast cancer's molecular diversity to move beyond the "one size fits all" approach into breast cancer treatments that are tailored to the biology of the tumor. They are also studying the driving mechanisms that lead to drug resistance in the three major breast cancer subtypes and the role of cancer stem cells.
Here's the best part, 100% of public funds go directly into research grants. A portion of the funds that are raised from major donations and third-party fundraising go towards administrative expenses and overhead.

Cliff, look up Traveltext. He lives in Australia and is very active in bringing male breast cancer to the forefront. He's active on Pinktober Revolution, although right now that thread is quiet, and has an excellent web site.

The Pinktober Revolution thread is in recess, but you can find out more at PinktoberSucks.com

I found some of my report and updated my profile.
-
Shepkitty, you posted so many good ones! They make not only good shirt sayings, but good responses to stupid comments. Traveltext and Cliff, do you have any good ones to post here? Thanks, ruthbru, for the good lead on where to donate. (Not that cancer leaves me much spare cash, but I can tell my friends.)
By the way, I recommend ordering just one thing to start if you have not done business with a company. I ordered a bunch of anti-pinktober stuff from one place, and many items were received damaged or incorrectly printed.
