I have been retired for 3 years, my employer is going through a tough time with too much work not enough experienced people. Should I go back? If I do it would be for the money and I would work as a contract software engineer keeping all my retirement benefits, my monthly check and health insurance.

I feel a ton better now that Im off AI drugs. The comfort of a large paycheck is appealing.

Not sure how this would effect my SS, currently I'm 59 and am not receiving SS or SSDI.

Any advice? I could live fine without this but the extra money is exciting.

Go for it!! This will only affect your Social Security positively in that:

    • It will add quarters when you were contributing to the system. You are dinged for anything less than 35 years which counts as a goose egg (zero). This could be a major difference. BTW - you should work until full retirement age, if possible.
    • It should add to your base over those 35 years replacing some of your earlier low-earning times.
    • Not to mention that I suspect it will help in a ton of other ways. (But don't spend more than your first month's paycheck Smile)
So glad you are doing well. I feel so fortunate that one of my October projects has been pushed back.
Because there is only one of me, and I was feeling it. Raising my glass. As I said: go for it. - Claire
