Benign appearing solid lesions are usually followed for 2 years if a) there was no biopsy and b) there was no change in size from the prior study.

In my practice, once it was shown to be a benign fibroadenoma I would recommend one 6 month f/u just to make sure no complications from the biopsy had developed and then I would let it go unless it began to feel bigger by the patient.

The other point to be made is that if something can be seen on ultrasound, it can be followed by ultrasound thereby avoiding unnecessary radiation exposure.

Thank you djmammo. Is a fibroadenoma the same as adenosis? My biopsied area could not be consistently reproduced on US so they used a 3D guided mammo as a guide.Maybe with the marker it will now show on US.

    Those are two different things.

Some markers are specially made to be visible at ultrasound. Perhaps they used one of those.

They want me to get ultrasound every 6 months because ofmy dense breast(extremely). Doesn't show on mammogram. I know ultrasound doesn't have the radiation as does the mammogram. Maybe it would be better for you to get ultrasound if worried about too much exposure.

But yes better safe than sorry....

Thank you. I thought the radiologist told me sclerosing adenosis on the phone, but written report says: "focal adenosis with rare associated calcifications in a background of dense stromal fibrosis". Google seems to point to the same definition when I search the term adenosis vs. sclerosing adenosis. Yes I am overthinking I suppose but I see the same patterns emerging that my mom experienced before she got her diagnosis of bc. She went from a normal mammogram one year to a stage 3 aggressive cancer the following year that required mutliple rounds of chemo and radiation, blood transfusions etc. My maternal grandmother died from bc because she refused treatment with her second occurence of breast cancer.

I had my 6 month follow up to my benign biopsy in March, everything was fine and was told to go back to my normal yearly mammo schedule. A few days ago I found a new lump that is sore in the biopsied breast. I think it may be a cyst that they said was there should I get another check up?
