Surgical excision biopsy
Comments
-
I had a surgical biopsy a year ago on my left breast (it turned out to be DCIS). I didn't find the surgery a problem at all - they did it at 1:00 P.M. and I was in the car driving home with my husband at 3:30 P.M. I had general anesthesia. I had no pain at all.

Mel,
So sorry to hear that you didn't get a "clean" report. Do get a 2nd (and 3rd if needed) opinion. You won't be sorry.
Blessings,
Jamie

MTwoman, not conflicting, I was concerned with the positive p63..etc. I didn't understand nor was it explained to me. Mystic88 explanation helped and I was able to find what I was looking for on the internet. The only thing that is conflicted is me! 😁I don't want go back and re-excise for the atypia. I left a message with primary for secind opinon but I am leaning towards taking a wait and monitor approach. Thank you, I will read the link that you sent.
-
Jaime, glad you got good results!!
-
Mel, were you able to get a hold of your dr?
-
so excited my doctor gave me the all clear today. Have to go back in 6 months for mammo and U/S to set a new baseline. I asked about the MRI and have to wait 6 months due to the recent surgery, which sucks as if I'd gotten it this year it wouldn't have cost me a penny! Also mentioned tamoxifen if my benign problems get bad. Not sure I like that idea but will cross that bridge if and when it happens.
-
yay bibi!! That's great news!!!
-
mystic, I called my primary and put in for the new mammogram and 2nd surgical opinion. I have an appt with my hematologist/oncologist for different reasons so I will ask them to take a look and explain also.
Meanwhile, trying very hard to quit smoking. Tapering down worked for me last time so I've cut way back. But I got my car back, yah! Still probems with the other driver not making her statement, boo!
Still having sharp annoying nipple pain, even with the surgical bra, worse with a reg bra..but surgeon said healing well. And externally it looks like it's healing well although it looks at times as a small intention at nipple site. Can't do anything but wait and see how the final results are after a few months.
Back to work on Monday!
Bibi, that is great news. My doc suggested tamoxifen...yeah, no thanks!
-
Mel, I am so happy you got your car back! Hopefully that other driver gets herself together and makes that statement soon. Let us know what the hema/onco says about those results!
-
Scheduled for prep at 6:30am (pacific time) tomorrow. Surgery at 7:50am, approx 30 min surgery and two hour recovery. Please keep us in your prayers tomorrow Morning! I'm nervous for my first time having surgery and first time being put under anaesthesia. Kissing my little one (3 year old son) tomorrow morning before I leave is going to break my heart. Ugh Please tell me this getseasier!
-
Good luck MamaBee!! Everything will go just great, you will see!! This was my third trip to surgery and anesthesia, and it really is not nearly as bad as you would think. You do wake up with a dry throat, so expect that.
We will all be thinking of you!
-
Good luck mamabee!
-
Good luck Mamabee!!! It will be in and out, over before you know it!
I go for my results / follow up today! Haven't gotten any calls that the appt is switched to the BS instead of the PA, so I guess that's a good sign. I've been dreading every time the phone rings. A few more hours and hopefully this 3+ month saga will be over!!!!!
-
ok ladies!!! Back from the doctor. Steri strips are off. Still hurt quite a bit.
Results are good! Nothing atypical or malignant. Oddly, this biopsy showed no pash. I think a few more benign findings than the needle one.
Intraductal papilloma with focal usual epithelial hyperplasia, radial sclerosing lesion and fibrocyostoc changes including adenosis adenosiis with intraluminal calcifocations, columnar cell hyperplasia and prominent mammary duct ecstasia.
So....follow up mammo in 6 months! Phew. Have to check into some of these new things for own peace of mind.
Thank you for your support ladoes! This is a heck of ride waiting and waiting.
hope you're all well!

That is great news mommakat!!!!
I'm home now. So groggy and in quite a bit of pain/discomfort. My lump was big and fairly deep plus the surgeon did a core needle biopsy of another mass close by...so a lot happened while I was sleeping. I'm scared to get my results. My CNB was benign but discordant with imaging findings. I also now have a lumpy clavicle ...which are likely lymph nodes. (Not a good sign)Trying to hold onto hope. Please send a prayer up for me. I have a 3 year old son who needs his mommy!
-
praying for you mommabee. Rest and try to relax. Xo
-
Yay mommakat! That's great news!!
Mammabee, I'm glad you made it through your procedure well. Hopefully everything comes back benign, and don't worry too much about the lumpy clavicle. Did your BS see that while you were under?
-
Mommakat congrats!! What did your doc say to those benign findings? it's so crazy, this system that if PA calls it's good and otherwise it's not, they should have the PA call either way, and if it's bad they could say we saw some concerning things, please come in. I like this site http://breast-cancer.ca/clmncellesions/
Mel you got your back, that's half the battle!! 😉 Crazy.
Bibi that's just gr8.
mamabee go kiss your little one. Fingers crossed for good results!

They didn't puta tensor or binder on me at the hospital. My bra isn't working for me. I'm in quite a bit of pain/discomfort. Any suggestions?
-
A normal sports bra worked for me
-
sports bra if you have one. Do you have an ace bandage? maybe that would help? For me, even with the bra I had to take the pain meds, use ice sometimes, and most importantly, i propped myself up at a comfy angle, and moved as little as possible. hang in there. it takes time. I'm 9 days out and still really sore.
-
I agree that a front-closure sports bra works well. I woke up after my surgery on Wednesday wearing a post surgical zip front bra, which is more like a vest, really. The ladies were telling me how funny it was to see two men trying to put a bra on one "tiny" woman ( guess they only know how to take them off?) I was able to shower today and changed to my confusing sports bra, which is fine, just not as easy to use as the medical one, which has two hooks to secure the fabric liner under the metal zipper. It is much more industrial strength! Made in 'Murica by Calomed. I have ordered some more zip fronts, though. I have to wear them day and night for 3 weeks! They said no lifting more than 10 lbs for 3 weeks, too. Good thing I had already done my fall cleaning!
Did anyone else get dosed with Exparel? I have to wear a medical bracelet until the medicine wears off tomorrow. It's a 72 hour analgesic, never heard of it until now.
-
Bellapam, I do not have personal experience with Expatel, but it is a concentrated form of bupivicaine (local anesthetic) in a sustained release form. I have used similar products though. I'm glad you are doing well post-op!!
-
bellapam, I also woke up with the surgical bra..I don't know how they put it on!
-
I forgot to mention how those crazy nurses told me my tumor had teeth and hair when I first woke up. I wanted to see it, got excited, but they were just kidding about that 😒. So disappointed!
-
hahaha!! Bellapam that's too funny. I removed a tumor with a bunch of hair and bony fragments once (on a dog). I think will be the highlight of my career
-
Hi Ladies,
Hope everyone is healing well.
My incision looks good, but I'm still in considerable pain, and now I'm 12 days post op. Anyone else have that? And more concerning, is I have a rock hardness about a full inch or more on some sides, around the incision, deep in my boob. Does that make sense? I know the doc said the incision might be hard, but I don't know if this is normal. I really don't want to go back again! Haha. It wasn't like this at my post op on Thursday.
What do you guys think?
Thanks
-
mommakat, glad to hear you are on the road to recovery! The firm changes around the incision are normal. Mine is still a little bit firm as well.
-
Bellapam - That's hilarious about the tumor with hair and teeth.
MommaBee - I needed a binder for the first week. A sports bra didn't cut it. I think I needed more than "support." I needed compression. Maybe an ace bandage will work?
MommaKat - I'm about the same - 12 days out. During the middle 4-5 days, the pain decreased, but has now increased again. There's no sign of infection or other problems, so I just imagine that some nerve endings are just getting wrapped around some newly healed tissue, pulling and tugging. At least that's what my brain imagines. And yes, my whole excision area is hard. I remember this from my previous excisions, so I think it's pretty normal.
-
oh thank you both so much! I really didn't want t to go back and seem crazy. Lol.
