Breaking up scar tissue with massage

I was diagnosed with IDC and DCIS, bilateral mastectomy and am now on arimidex and have tissue expanders in for reconstruction. My doctor said that it doesn't seem like I am expanding well, he thinks some scar tissue has developed and wants me to massage to try to break it up or he may have to go in and surgically do it so I can continue expanding. Anyone else had to do this? Is there a proper technique?

I did not have the same situation with the expanders. I did have scar tissue from my bilateral mastectomies and my massage therapist did work on the scar tissue and did loosen the tissue up.

However, due to state regulations (Florida) for registered massage therapists, once my expanders were in and I had the appearance of breasts, she would no longer work on the area.

I do not know if your state may have the same restrictions on working in the breast area of mastectomy patients.
