What a special lunch that must have been. I have known my oldest friend for 30 years, she is so dear to me and does anything for me. Don't know what I would have done through the years without her, so I truly understand the bond between the 2 of you. Enjoy your reunion.

I hear your bell at the Jersey Shore!

You look lovely in all the wigs. It is truly your smile that shines through all of them.

So happy you had lunch with your dear friend. Enjoy your reunion next weekend.

Embracing my new look. My hair was falling out in handfuls. Thanks to my DH for buzz clipping and hand shaving my head.

I have a button that reads "With a body like this, who needs hair?".

Lita, Illimae, you guys look great. I am fat, and have a large jaw, so I look like a bull walrus when I'm bald.

Radiation fatigue REALLY starting to kick in today. And my back is hurting...muscles, bones, etc. I haven't been on any chemo since August 20. Will start back up on Taxol Tuesday, Oct. 3.

Also felt a little woozy on my feet, too. RO warned me that the rads would still bore down, weeks after the sessions end.

Taking 15 mg of Nameda/Memantine (Alzheimer's meds) a day now. We'll see how I continue to do.

Finished up ALL final notes to my "Death Binder" this afternoon while I still have the mental capacity to do so.

Last night was a very SOMBER Stage IV metastatic live group. We lit a candle for a woman who just passed less than a week ago. She had brain mets, too, and went very fast. We were all shocked. The social worker/moderator said that these "transitions" often come in waves. We just lost two other ladies from the group last month. One of them was quite young, and she, too, had brain mets.

Not in a very good mind-set today.

Lita-are you getting treatment at UCSF or elsewhere? I loved your positivity rant

I am thinking of getting a second opinion at UCSF. They have a dept that does just that.

    Gotta get thru Taxol first.

Lita, It is so very difficult to hear of other sisters passing when we are in the midst of this hell. I too was in a "bent" mood yesterday after being ambushed by a woman at my nieces wedding who thought I might like to hear about her sons current "horrific suffering" from his cancer. My DH had to intervene and rescue me and she still did not get it....Hope you are feeling better, thinking of you. And I like both wigs too. It's fun to have a blonder version for when I go out among strangers!

    Oh, gees, Artist!

These people just don't know when to quit!

The steroids I'm on make me very irritable, and anything can set me off. If I had an encounter with that woman, I would have gone off on a major 'roid rage and given her a piece of my mind.

What was she trying to prove by doing that to you? Thank God your husband intervened.

    The utter insensitivity.

Met with the Palliative Care doctor this afternoon. VERY productive meeting. He's a sweetheart, too. Very personable, nice bed side manner, and he didn't rush the meeting. We met for over an hour, and covered a lot of bases.

It turns out, I have probably been UNDER medicating for my pain. I just told him that I really don't like to take a lot of stuff. My poor liver has enough work to do, just dealing with the tumors.

He suggested Gabapentine for back nerve pain. This drug also has a sedating effect, so it will help me sleep at night, too. It won't interfere with the Namenda/Memantine Alzheimer's meds either. Gonna try it tonight for sure. I have tapered off the Dexamethasone steroid, but the dr said it has a half life, and it will stay in the system for a while. He says I don't have to use the Ambien for sleep if I feel uncomfortable about it (we've all heard the horrible stories about this sleep aid....) I still have some Valium and some Methocarbamol, and he said I could use those to help every now and then. I could even try Melatonin, but I may need something stronger than that while there are still residual steroids in my system.

He's prescribing me some strong stuff for up-coming diarrhea (I KNOW I will get it while I'm on Taxol). We also have plenty of options for nausea and vomiting.

I'm so glad my MO set this appt up. He will also help me transition over to Hospice when the time comes.

A very productive meeting indeed, Lita.  I'm so glad to hear that you continue to refine your plan of attack.  Having a plan always make things more manageable, doesn't it?  And this new doctor... how wonderful to have another care partner on your team, particularly someone who truly listens and responds to all the nasty SE's.  So often we hear the stories of MO's and RO's who ignore our concerns.  Its great to hear that you have the proactive support that you deserve.  Take care.
