Waiting stinks

So I went in for my first mammogram on the 8th, (I had put it off since March when I turned 40., I am lazy, struggling and generally winning, yay with giving up alcohol (Not this forum I know)) and I have three year old, additionally it took me a while to realize I had to schedule the appointment and i couldn't just drop in, like twice really. Yeah, that's me. Anyway I finally made an appointment but because my breast are fiberous (Sp), like my mom's , my dr had ordered a 3d mammogram. I of course scheduled it at the wrong place. Luckily the radiology lab was wonderful and found me another appointment the next day. I went in not expecting much. I was warned that often times with first mammograms you get called in twice because they are trying to get a baseline for future ones. So when I got a call last Tuesday I didn't worry about it, even though they said something was up with my right breast. I went in Wednesday and they took the second set of mammograms (Even then I didn't really think much of the fact they only took pics of one breast) I figured the first ones weren't clear or something. I then was sent back to wait. That is when I began to worry a little particularly when several other women also waiting came and went with clear results and I was sitting there...waiting. I started to stress more when they called me back for an ultrasound, and relaxed again when they found nothing, and then stressed again, of course when I was told I needed a biopsy. I had that on Friday. I am waiting for result. I had BIRADs of 4 for calcifications that are loosely grouped calcifications that are indeterminate in the lateral mid depth right breast. I have no idea what it means, I wasn't prepared to take notes. So I am just waiting. I hate waiting... Now I am off to work for a bit and a meeting and more work. I hope it is a distraction... the soonest I hear will be tomorrow and the mammogram tech or radiologist said she didn't think it was anything but she has been wrong before. But she gave me I BIRADs of 4. The person who did the biospy said calcium was found in the calcifications at least I think that is what she said, I was reading her scanned copy on my computer.

Waiting absolutely stinks, and I think every woman here would agree. Good luck and keep us posted!

Semeagher, welcome to BCO! so sorry that you're here with breast health concerns. You're right that with the first mammo, they regularly have to figure out what is "normal" for some women, hence the call backs and re-imaging. Calcifications can happen naturally as we age, so some of them are "normal" and b9 and those typically present in specific patterns. There are other types of calcifications that are not "normal" and point to a potentially malignant process, these form different specific patterns. That your pattern was "indeterminate" means that it wasn't clearly one type or the other. BIRADS 4 is given when a finding has greater than a 2% chance of being malignant (less than that is BIRADS 3 and those are usually imaged on a closer interval schedule to assess for stability). The 'better safe than sorry' nature of BIRADS 4 means that 70-80% of biopsies in that category come back b9. If you have any other questions, please post them here and make sure to let us know how you're doing. Hoping that your biopsy comes back b9!

The wait makes me crazy. All thoughts going through my mind. Had core needle biopsy yesterday. Wasn't bad. I was freaking out because I thought it would hurt. No pain for me. Just a little pressure which wasn't bad. A little bit of aching today. Now just have to wait for results. Trying to stay positive

It did! I do have fibrodema (Sp?). In the middle of giving my three year old a bath so I am not taking the time to look it up, which is annoying but not cancerous. Anyway thank you for the support.
