Insight please, very concerned
I'm 41, had my 2nd annual mammogram last week and got a call to come back, citing change in breast tissue. My gym called me over the weekend and read me the report and said it was incomplete and said there were calcifications. I went to the diagnostic today and the tech took two images of my right breast, left consulted with the radiologist who wanted another. After that they had me do an ultrasound focusing on my right underarm saying something about lymph nodes. I will not get the results for possibly 48 hours. I'm terrified and sad. I have ms and 3 kids. Any insight would be so appreciated. Thanks

I would give you the results right now if I could, but you are stuck waiting. You have about an eighty percent chance this is benign. If I told you that you had a 80% chance of finding a blue unicorn in your closet, you'd be constantly looking for it. I know waiting sucks.

waiting is the worst! Try and focus on enjoying the moment if you can. Worrying only ruins the present...it won't change these results. Of course that is easier said than done. I just had a lumpectomy and am waiting for results too. I am distracting myself with anything I can find to make time go by a little faster.
Just be kind to yourself and I hope all the news you get is positive.
-
Thank you both. I'm concerned that the results from the diagnostics weren't shared with me.I'm also just coming to terms with my recent ms diagnosis and how it's effected my kids. Sound advice and I will try to start just living in the moment. I'm praying for good news from your lumpectomy and for all the other reasons that bring us here.

So after a spot compression and ultrasound, I have a biopsy scheduled in the middle of October. That seems like a long time to wait, not to mention that the anxiety is eating me alive. I met with the breast surgeon for a consultation, it appears there's been a change in density since last year, it showed on the spot compression but not on the ultrasound just guessing because it's so close to the chest wall. Just babbling, it's not the kind of conversation I can have at work. :

hi Chicago,
I feel you on the long wait. I had my first mammo on June 15th, when I was still 40. Got called back, had spot, then ultrasound, the core needle biopsy, and finally just had an excisional biopsy yesterday. It's been over 3 months! And now I'm 41. Waiting can make you crazy! I've had good weeks and then all of sudden a bad day or 2. It's the pits. Try not to dwell and obsess (easier said than done, I know)
Hang in there

That does seem like a long wait. I found a lump last year 18 months after my first mammo (clear) and had a mammo, ultrasound and biopsy in less than two weeks. Perhaps whatever they see isn't alarming enough to be rushed, which would be good. I know it's tough, breathe

I'm fine during the day when I'm busy, but as soon as the house gets quiet...I melt down like tonight. I'm so sorry you've been going through this, since June!! Good luck with your results!

thank you illimae, I hope you are right...

Dear Scared - Hang in there. It is really, really hard to wait in complete uncertainty. I was an anxious mess, and with every bit of information that came in I got a little calmer.
Would you feel better if your biopsy wasn't so far off? If so, maybe you can push to have them schedule you sooner. Let your doctor know it is causing you great anxiety which can't be good for your MS. And know when and how you'll get the results (I had the radiologist send the report to both my PCP and OB/GYN. I didn't care who delivered results, just wanted to hear from whichever doctor reached out to me first.)
I totally understand that when the house gets quiet the worries can get louder. What really helped me at night was listening to guided meditations and prayers. That and binge watching 2 entire seasons of a TV show. I just didn't want to sit with the worry that really did me no good and wasn't going to change anything.
I hope the absolute best for you. This waiting part is awful - we all know.
-
I think that's a long time to wait for a biopsy. The anxiety must be driving you crazy. Maybe you should ask why the wait? Is there another location that could schedule it earlier?
In my case - I found the lump so very different circumstances. But it was the OB/GYN who sent me the same day for the diagnostic mammogram and two days later I had the biopsy with results 3 days after that.
I'm hoping that they really aren't seeing much in your case. It seems quite callous to make someone wait.

the quiet at night is the worst. It makes my hubby crazy, but I have to have the tv on until I fall asleep. Otherwise I fill my head with all kinds of things. No matter how hard I try.
-
thank you Agatha, I will try to get them to move me up if possible...the uncertainty is just awful. I truly appreciate your kind words.
-
My husband just banned me from the net for the evening, I will take the advice an binge watch something as a distraction.

Notvery-- I think it's a first come, first serve with the dr...my gyn's office refers most. He did say he'd let me know if he could do it sooner, but it sounded like based on location it might not be quick or easy, so I'm scheduled on a day when he has more time to spend on it. Btw--you sound incredibly brave, thanks for your words
