April 2012 Chemo Starters?

JRyan: I understand completely where you are coming from. People assume now that you are "done", everything is back to normal, and you should just go on like you did before this whole thing started. I would love to do what people expect, but it's easier said than done. I try to keep myself busy, so I don't dwell on the dark side. Time does heal wounds, honey. Just give yourself the time you need.
-
JRyan what you said has so been my last few days:
"I get really frustrated with well-meaning people who say "So you're all done. You must be all better now." How do you guys react to that? I really want to go on a rant about how I may not be done, and I'm not all better, but feeling better today... The mental part of dealing with this whole thing has really taken hold since the tx ended. I find myself down in the dumps a lot and dealing with a bit of anger too. Hoping time will bring "me" back, although I have a feeling that "me" will never be the same..."
And Kjliberty what you said:
"People assume now that you are "done", everything is back to normal, and you should just go on like you did before this whole thing started. I would love to do what people expect, but it's easier said than done. I try to keep myself busy, so I don't dwell on the dark side."
Even my sister who has been a very big supporter has started acting like this. I cry everyday because I don't know what my new normal is! I spent this past weekend in bed because I am so down and don't know where to go from here! I still have herceptin treatments until about April so my life is not back to normal yet!!
Like you guys, I am so glad I have a place to feel safe and know that you have been through the same thing and understand me! Thanks!!

kjiberty & mt4ever, Thank you! I always feel a little better after being on here, "talking" to others who know exactly what I am saying. Gentle hugs to you both

Hello gang- I hope this finds you all are coping well. Haven't visited in a while but started up again when my girlfriend was diagnosed with breast cancer a couple months ago. She had her double masectomy last Tues, getting some drain tubes out today as a matter of fact.
Personally I am sitting in the hospital right now. I suffered a heart attack yesterday. 49 years old and I just am still in shock. I had the very same symptoms of chest pain and jaw pain while on chemo. I did call the oncologist at the time, but was told it was from the Neupogen side effects.
The Lord protected me though and the heart cath showed no blockages at this time although they can see some damageto the heart. They aren't sure if I suffered the attack from blockages or from spasms, so now I am off of caffiene and migraine meds. I still say darn chemo....it's all so frustrating.
-
Oh my gosh SinginCyndi, that's crazy. Freakin chemo sucks, but cancer sucks more. I hope that they get your heart stable and figure out why it's happening. Keep me informed. I will be sending good thoughts your way.
Sorry to hear about your friend too. Too many wonderful people...
I am doing ok for the most part these days. Now that exhange is done, i am just trying to get back to normal routine. Still getting herceptin, so always worrying about my heart. Scary stuff.
Good luck to you and hope the rest of April's gang is doing well. -
I am now home with 5 new meds to take every day. Feeling great except for the caffiene withdrawl headache. Need to go up to get scripts filled-while my hubby rests from his surgery that he had this morning.
He's plannning on getting a knee replacement and they had to take out the plate that he had. What a crazy week, I'm taking the next week off work also. They said I could resume activity but no running, working out in the gym or aerobics. I've been subbing in our local school system here and love it!
anyway have a great rest of the week you all.

Wow, Cyndi. Glad you're home. You've got a lot on your plate. Take care ofyourself, girl! Cancer/chemo--the gift that keeps on giving....

Hi Ladies,
My hair is coming back. YES! It's grey and really curly which is a complete 180 from what it was before chemo and radiation. I am truly blessed!
I am wondering how long I should wait before dyeing my hair. I'm also thinking that I should just leave it. This is so trivial in comparison to what we have all been through, but I still wonder.
I, too, feel upset when people say, "So you're done with all your treatments, so you must be well now." I say ... so far, so good, and thank you. They mean well, but inside I'm thinking...my blood work, mammogram, and radiation check is in January and I'm nervous. I find that my fatigue is all-encompasing. I'm tired all the time.
I'm happy also to have a venting place.
Here's to minimal side effects and excellent results!

Hi Diane: So glad your hair is coming back. Mine is very curly (tight curls) as well. I colored my hair after abut 2 1/2 months and have done it twice since then. My hairdresser uses a semi-permanent, non-ammonia color. I go tin January for all my tests and my dx was 1/27.
-
Hi Karen,
I just went to my hairdresser and she said there are products at a place called Love's Whole Foods and Nature Store (local). The product doesn't put chemicals in your system, but rather it stains the hair. It is vegetable based.
We seem to be on the same track. Best of luck with all your tests.

Thanks, Diane!

Hello ladies, just wondering if anyone else had gotten her periods back aside from me. Im 48 years old and my periods stopped before my 3rd AC. Now at just four months pfc, got it back today. Is this normal? Ithought being 48, chemo would put me on permanent menopause. Pre chemo, i have always had regular periods.
