I am having a biospy tomorrow using 3d guided mammo because the area needing biopsied could not be consistently found on ultrasound but was found on 3d mammo. They also have an ultrasound room on hold if needed. This is all new to me but just thought I would share the reason mine is being done 3d guided.

From what I understand, the Radiologist is somewhat confident she can find the mass using US.  I have had many biopsies, using US and Mammo.  All at the same center, with the same Radiologist.  I am somewhat comfortable that  she (the Radiologist) will refer me out  to MRI if she can not biopsy the correct mass using US.  I am selfishly hoping she can and it is at least somewhat benign so I can proceed with my plan of PBMX the way I want.  The characteristics of this mass is not looking good though.  Thanks to dense breasts.

This radiologist is the one that assigned me Birads 5.  I have always secretly wished they would find something, anything that would help make my decision for BMX easier.  Now all I want is another all clear to move forward with my plan.  My twin sister had a PBMX 2 years ago for 4 aytipias, AHD, ALH. FEA, and PASH, and had a very rough road.  I am confident I will have an easier time, as she has some healing issues I do not.  We basically have, or had the same extremely dense breasts with issues.

Granny2be,  I have had both the 3d guided and US guided before, both were fine, but when you have severe fibrocystic breasts, you are used to pain.  Use the small ice packs, 20 minutes on then 20 minutes off as suggested.  Huge help.  Make sure you are comfortable in the position they place you before the procedure starts.  YOU decide when you are ready!  Good luck and I will be thinking and praying for you.

Just chiming in, I have "extremely dense" breast tissue on all imaging modalities, in fact my diagnostic radiologist stated that in thirty years I had some of the densest she had seen. In my mammogram and ultrasound it was all negative, but due to the density I had to have an MRI, where they saw a 6mm mass and a 2.5 cm non-mass like enhancement that had not shown up at all on the diagnostic mammo or U/S. They were classified as BIRADS 4 and immediately suggested for MRI-guided biopsy due to the density of the surrounding tissue. The radiologist decided to go ahead and try with the ultrasound, where she only got the non-mass like enhancement, which was just fibroadenomatous changes, but the 6mm mass hasn't been evaluated yet, I have to have an MRI-guided biopsy still because the ultrasound couldn't see it. Now I have to wait for it to heal which due to the fact that they didn't bind me after the biopsy (they took like twelve cores and now I have a HUGE hematoma) will not be for another month or two.
