How long does chemo work against cancer after treatment ends

Anyone know? I know our side effects last long after treatment ends but are there lasting cancer fighting effects after the 2 week period?

    I don't know for sure but would hazard to guess it's somewhere in that 4-6 week period that they want surgery to occur in post neoadjuvant chemo.

    excellent questjon,, my personal guess is until darkening of all nails disappear. I am 13 wks PFC but still have darkened nails left

    Interesting question which ties in with my never ending quest to know how much good each treatment does. I so don't want to do all 12 weeks of taxol. I can imagine myself making it through some, but not all.

    I'd like to think the chemo is still rushing around our bodies looking to kill any last bad cancer cells for a long time. I just don't want the SEs. All the good stuff and none of the bad please.......

    so I asked my MO this last week and he made it sound like the drugs don't do anything after the 2 weeks. I just read on another site a dr said they continue to fight for 6-8 weeks because it's accumulative. Now I don't know if my dr was referring to the drugs before your body flushes them out or the lasting effects.

    Anyone have there MO be specific with this answer

    I'm pretty sure that any nail changes are just going to remain until that part of your nail grows out. Except for the base of the nail where new growth is occurring, nails are basically dead (like hair) and won't show any changes.

    It took 6 months for the deep ridge across each nail that marked the 1st round of chemo to grow out in my case. I figure it will take about the same amount of time to have only nails with no chemo influence.

    I still have nail issues over 2 years later, so I'm guessing not.
