    Hi Jef1qr-

Did your doctor give you any reasons for not removing a malignant tumor? Once a tumor is diagnosed as malignant, removal through either a lumpectomy or mastectomy is standard. We're unsure why a malignant tumor would be left in, perhaps some of our members will chime in with their experiences. We'd also encourage you to seek a second opinion, if you're in a position to do so!

Once cancer has spread outside of the breast, many Docs feel the "horse is already out of the barn" and do not believe mastectomy or lumpectomy will not help. Healing from surgery could slow done your ability to get chemo going as quickly if you first had surgery prior to starting chemo.

Have you had mets to the bone for 5 years already? I'm a little confused .

    Best of luck going forward
