Any place to donate prosthetic and bras?
I was flat for a year after my UMX and have my prosthetic and two bras for it - does anyone know of any place that I could donate them to? Or does anywhere here want them? The bras are 36D and tan in color (I have the tags cut out, they were itchy). Hate to just throw them away although maybe it's not a big deal to.

I was looking for somewhere to donate my old pros but didn't have any luck finding some where that I could be sure they would go to someone who could actually use it. The only suggestion I got was to donate it to one of they local Thrift Stores. I don't like donating to a Thrift Store as it seems to me like might not be dealt with with respect but rather just stick out on a shelf and kids, men, women who see it will just joke about it - so I've decided to just keep it put up in case I ever find someone who can use it. For me, the idea of just throwing it away would be like throwing a part of me away. I asked the BC Navigator at the Center I go to if I could donate it there but can't - it's considered a medical device as opposed to wigs/scarves/etc. so they can't give it out 'second hand'.
So guess I'll go ahead and give a little info about it here in case it might help someone here. I wore it for approx. 2 1/2yrs but it still looks great. The only reason I got a new pros a year ago was because of lost weight thus pros no longer 'matched' me. I'd be happy to semd it to someone who could use it. It sits in my closet in it's carry case in the original box. If anyone thinks it might be useful to them, PM me and tomorrow I'll check to be sure which model and size it is. What I do remember is that it is American Breast Care and color is 'blush'. I wore it in 36 D mostly depending on the bra fit, some bras were 36 C.

Christina, this question has come up before, and there are a few threads where you can find some suggestions. Try using the Search function with "donate" and "bras" (without the quotes) as your search terms. You'll get some results that aren't relevant, but quick scan of the results will point you to the threads that are the best fit.
Thanks for your thoughtful offer to help others!

I am a missionary here in Costa Rica and bring back donations to the hospital where I receive my treatment. If you are interested in donating I can give you my sister's address in MN and I will bring them back next time I visit home. It was been wonderful providing these donations to women who otherwise would not have the bras and prosthesis. We also bring back wigs and scarves if anyone has any they not longer need. Let me know and I will PM you her information. Thank you and God Bless. Feel free to pass the word.

There is an organization in Palo Alto, CA called Breast Cancer Connections, which is a wonderful free service for breast cancer patients. They do all kinds of stuff - including helping underserved women with post surgical supplies. I have donated forms to them and they were very glad to receive and also gave a tax receipt for them.
-
beacon,
Thanks for alerting me to this organization. Looks as if they do great work. I used to live in Palo Alto--if I still did, I think I'd volunteer there!

Hi there,
I live in Eastern Washington and when I was real sick I was directed to a place in Spokane called "Cancer Patient Care" where I found wigs, bras, chemo caps, hats, tops and a whole lot more. I only needed a shower chair and got one for no cost. It was all donations and free for those who needed. There are blankets, quilts, and clothing for those with cancer issues as well as items such as shower chairs, walkers, and wheelchairs. Now that my journey is over, I will be taking all my hats, wigs, bras, swimsuits and prosthesis back to the place that helped me. I have a lot to donate, I had no breasts for three years due to delayed reconstruction and over two years with expanders. I certainly hope you can find a place such as this in your area. Hope this helps.

I live here in Costa Rica and there is a great need here for bras, prosthesis, wigs, scarves, etc. Just let me know if you have anything you would like to donate and I can send you an address in the states and we have a mission group coming in March that could bring them. Blessings all, Kathy

Pink Heart Funds also gladly accepts donated breast forms that they pass on to uninsured women. They're located in Mississippi.
My friend found them because her mother no longer wore her prosthetics. They were so happy to get them!

I just arranged to donate my bilateral breast forms and gently used bras to a 501C3 charity (meaning you can itemize donations on your tax return) called Pink Heart Funds. They are located in Mississippi. It was mentioned in older posts, but the link was bad. I was able to easily find their website and contact information via Google search and I was able to reach them via Facebook message (search Facebook for Pink Heart Funds). They were excited to receive such donations, and are in great need. I prefer to donate as close to home as possible before donating abroad, especially given our own under-insured.

Can you please send me an address to donate. I have prosthesis and several bras in great condition.

Hi there, I have 2 breast prosthetics which would fit a DD cup. 1 I have worn for around 10 months but is still in excellent condition. The other I have never used. I also have 2 swimming prosthetics that have hardly been used. I've had reconstruction now and would happily give them to someone. Not looking for any money, however they are heavy and shipping costs would be expensive so someone would need to either pick up or pay for shipping.
-
Hi Amanda, and welcome!
This is a very thoughtful offer! We have a forum here for this: BCO Free-cycle. However, we can not allow any exchange of money, even for shipping costs. If you'd like to donate these to another member, and pay for shipping, that would surely be something wonderful to pay it forward!

Hi Amanda
I had a mastectomy May 2018 without reconstructive surgery. I will not be having reconstructive surgery. If you still have both types of the DD prosthesis and bras I would certainly appreciate them
I am not good with the computer so I hope you get this message
Thank you,
