I'm in the same boat. :(

Tons of symptoms. Pain/stinging in breast, nipple, back, shoulder, underarm, ribs and arm. Unilateral uniduct yellow discharge...small amount only when expressed. Occasional random swelling of the areola right near nipple...about the size of a quarter. Two large palpable lumps in left breast. Lumpy area in right breast...newly found by breast surgeon. Mammo was clear.

Ultrasound of left breast only. Only one lump showed on scan. 4 1/2 cm x 2cm x 2.2cm. Bi rads 5 rating. Core needle biopsy results were discordant. They found FEA (DIN 1a)...basically cells that are just becoming abnormal. Thought to be a possible premarker for breast cancer. They also found fibrous mastopathy, a type of inflammatory tissue that is normally found in women with type 1 diabetes....which I don't have have, that I know of, but will be tested this week. My concern is that I have all the symptoms of breast cancer and I have multiple lumps that have not yet shown on scans.

My full excisional biopsy (lumpectomy) is scheduled for the 28th...on my 8 year wedding anniversary. I'm terrified. I've never had surgery before and have never been under general anaesthesia. I have pain in other areas and have been unwell for 3 months. I fear metastasis because of these things.

I have a bilateral ultrasound in a few days to try and get these other lumps to make an appearance. Then we will do another CNB if necessary. Surgeon will biopsy them during my lumpectomy if it isn't done beforehand.

I have a 3 year old son...and my Mama love amplifies my fear exponentially. How are you guys getting through the waiting period? I'm a complete wreck!

Mamabee33 Wow..the 28th seems so far away. I can imagine your anxiety.

It's been tough..convincing myself that I'll be fine then convincing myself that is BC then reconvincing that it's not. My boyfriend if two years broke up with me..so I guess the sadness of that has kept my mind somewhat occupied, I've asked more more days at work as it keeps the mind busy, I've thrown myself into a Netflix binge and I try to spend more time with my 10 year old. I try to keep positive thoughts.. no matter what happens..good or bad. "I got this."

Sending good thought and positive vibes to you!

MamaBee, I hope your results are more consistent with benign/atypia than true BC. As you can see, Mel and I have been going through this for quite some time. We understand how fear amplifies your signs... feeling jabbing pains through your breast and armpit, convincing yourself these are signs of mets. I have been there many many times for sure.

As Mel recommended, try keeping yourself busy- easier said than done, but it helps! I too have been Netflix binging on my days off to make time pass faster.

    Do keep us updated!

Mystic88.. update. Insurance problems.. the surgeon who accepts my HMO wants to do surgery at a hospital who doesn't accept my plan! So now they are trying to arrange it at another hospital that he is affiliated with that the insurance will cover. A little frustrated.. why didn't they send me to a surgeon that is affiliated with a hospital that readily accepts my plan! Ugh. This happened before when I had my double ballon enteroscopy and I ended up with a hefty bill.

Hope all is well and time is passing by quickly for you before your surgery.

Oh no Mel!!! I am so sorry that happened!!! :(

I totally understand your frustration. That happened to me with my last colonoscopy. I was not informed that the anesthesiologist was out of network and came home to a bill LARGER than that of the scoping itself!!! Basically charged a dollar per second! For what was just a little bit of propofol. Super frustrating.

When are you expecting to hear back for a re-schedule??

I spent all of the long weekend cleaning my house and getting ready (if I don't clean I know my husband won't...). Also bought some button down shirts and PJs to make life easier. My mom is flying down as well tomorrow to keep my hubby company in the waiting room. Which... as much as I love my mom, she can be very.. well.. "special" lol! I wake up every morning counting down the days. People at work make fun of me for being excited. If only they understood how we feel!!!!

Let me know when you get a sx date!

Mystic, wishing you the best of luck (and somewhat jealous that you will be done this week). I saw the breast surgeon today. She said that the odds that this is cancer dropped to 12-15% since my core biopsy was negative. That's good, but a lumpectomy is still recommended. Somewhat angry that the radiologist didn't tell me beforehand that a negative core biopsy didn't relieve the need to have a lumpectomy. I would have skipped the core biopsy. Anyway, I'll hear tomorrow when the surgery date will be.

Wishing you all the best of luck,

    Jamie

    Jamie,

Thanks for your good wishes!! I'm glad you heard good news from the BS, 12-15% is way better than the typical numbers associated with 4C.

What I can tell you about the need for CNB or any type of biopsy before proceeding with surgery is that it is typical. You get a lot of information to help you plan for surgery. In situations where you get benign results, you can plan for biopsy, whereas in cases where malignancy is found it helps plan for need of more invasive surgery or additional treatments.

    Keep us updated!

Mystic88, I know to mom's can be. I'm glad you have a support system.

I have a date! Fri the 15th...Now to find a ride! The person who was supposed to take me can't do it on that date.

Not real happy, I have to actually go to the breast link radiology at 730 for wire localization then they will wheelchair? me down the street to the hospital. Ugh..4 min walk. Insane. Get all the info on monday for preop.

Mel, I am so glad you finally have a date!!! And it's not too far away!

I too need to get the wire localization and then have someone drive me to the hospital. It's a couple miles away.

If I could I would offer to drive you! I don't think a virtual driver would suffice tho... ;)

good news!. My parents were driving down from NM sat for a family reunion. They said they would drive down early on Thursday so they will be able to take me!

Wow. So you actually have to drive to the hospital after the wire! I don't feel so weird now.

I'll be thinking of you this Friday!

it was almost in the middle of my breast, slightly closer to the nipple than the body wall. Because of where the mass was, this was the easiest access.

You will do great! It feels so good to have had it done and know that the waiting is over (at least for now anyway!)

I'm feeling great today! I took some Tylenol last night (my hubby forced me to) and I haven't been in pain. At all. I think I'm less painful than after the CNB even!

Mel, the incision was between periareolar and inframammary- like an inch or so from the nipple

No! Still not mentally prepared, worried about appearance.

Did the pre-registration, pre-screening and blood work today. Dropped off the sick leave and disability papers to dr office. Still need to buy a sports bra. I got rear ended in my car last night so now I'm without a car! And we were going to take my car because the other vehicle is a big tall truck that might be difficult to get in after.. waiting too hear about a rental..luckily I don't work til thursday.

And I'm still heart broken about my breakup.. it all seems like too much. It's PmS week so perhaps I'll have a better outlook in a few days!🙄

How are you feeling? Incision healing well? Do you call for your results tomorrow?
