Callback from 3D mammogram for ultrasound and worried
I've had "regular" mammo's for years - complex cyst in right breast, was on breast watch about 9 years ago. (have always been "aware" of this area in my breast, even today) A few diagnostic mammo call backs over the years. Last year, benign calcifications found in right breast but report said all good, see you in a year. Forward to this year - they are now doing the 3D mammo's - had this done Tuesday and now today the breast care center at the hospital called to schedule for a follow up ultrasound. Of course, I'm freaking out in every way imaginable. Anyone have stories to share with me to help calm my nerves through the weekend? Thank you so much.
Update- just talked to my regular Drs nurse to find out what was seen. She said a 2.5 indeterminate area in my left breast (that's my GOOD one!)

I just had a routine mammo also and was called back for a spot compression and US for left breast the outcome 7MM Asymmetry showing this finding is a beign complicated cyst and I have to go for a 6 month follow up just relax things will turn out ok believe me I' was nerves but I got my reports and didn't speak to the dr yet he is on vacation but speaking to the radiologist at the hospital she told me just cone for a 6 month follow up it's a cyst that showed 7MM Asytmmery I think it's so much unnecessary testing just relax can be just a cyst let me know

I am a 14 year survivor. Had my mammogram yesterday and got a call back today. The nurse who called me couldn't answer my questions about the call back but said they found a density. Density is normal breast tissue. It is in my opposite breast from cancer and I have had 3 biopsies of that breast over the years all benign. My advice to you is don't worry until there is something to worry about. Patience is something I have learned over the years. Please do follow through with whatever they want you to do. My cancer was a complete surprise to me at the age of 45. Better safe than sorry. You must be your own best advocate!

I am 56 and have been called back and had diagnostic mammo and ultrasound many many times as well. Did the 6 month thing for a while and then got a nice reprieve at menoupause for a couple of years.I think my first mammo was around 40, the baseline. Between the dense tissue and multiple cysts its gets tiring and worrisome! I just recently was on a 6 month watch and just had my diagnostic 3D mammo and ultrasound on 8/31 and now need a biopsy on Sept 18th. I am holding on to the 80/20 rule!

thank you grammy2be! Worrisome is so right! I'll be holding on to that rule for you too!! Hugs to you!!!

I have dense breasts and have been having 3D mammos since diagnosis. They give the results before you leave immediately after the doctor reviews. Last year I was given an ultrasound and then extra images on my good breast before they decided all was ok. Last month extra images were requested of my other breast before they sent me home for another year. Now I just expect to be called back. Hopefully you will be fine and it will be nothing. So very sorry you are having this stressful wait.

Beezie
Was this your first 3D mammo? I have heard they are better at catching problems earlier, but I had many call backs on the 2D mammos, so I am not sure if it is true or not.
-
yes my first 3D. Had many regular over past 10 years, a few callbacks for additional mammo images but always on right breast.

Hope you get a good report Beezie! When is your appointment?
-
My appointment is this coming Monday. I'm pretty much googled out so I'm going to just try to enjoy my weekend with my family.
-
Yes, enjoy your weekend! Glad to hear you got in quickly, chances are good you will not need further studies.

Thank you for all of your good vibes! Just got back from breast care center/having ultrasound. 2 cysts which need no further testing. She said this could be a cycle I can go through until I go through menopause and to not be surprised if I get more call backs as the years go on as I have dense breasts. (I'm 52)
TYJ!

Great news Beezie! I get a lot of call backs for cysts still at age 56. I am menoupausal with moderately dense breasts.
