Waiting for OncotypeDX...does it cover multiple dx in a sample?
Hi,
My pathology after mastectomy showed focal ILC and LCIS/DCIS present. Does anyone know if that changes or affects anything with an OncotypeDX? I know the last two are in situ.... just wondering.
Thanks!

beach2beach, I don't know about the Oncotype test specifically, what I do know is that invasive disease treatment takes precedence. If DCIS is included in the pathology, it doesn't affect your treatment, other than adding to the size of the tissue to be removed. I'm sure someone else with more knowledge about the Oncotype test will chime in soon.

Thanks MTWoman!

I believe oncotype uses tissue that has been turned to a slurry of tissue. My 2nd opinion felt that that did not do justice to herterogenus type tumors and puts little faith in the results because of that.

If a slurry is made of the tissue, it would seem that heterogeneous tumors would be better evaluated, not worse. Of course, I'm not a medical expert.
I had IDC, DCIS, and LCIS as well. My doctors weren't at all concerned about the DCIS or LCIS, and a 2nd opinion doctor at a top 10 NCI-designated cancer center wasn't, either.

Thanks to you all for your input

I am not sure of the slurry part. But they can do more than one sample-I saw my oncologist today and she indicated they sent 2 samples to Oncotype testing. One came back (11) and no chemo is indicated but the other sample has not yet come back and so the waiting continues. They said the 19th is the date genomic health gave them.

I got mine back. I assume it was done on the ILC only as LCIS and DCIS is in-situ. I know they have a special Oncotype testing on the DCIS , I read the booklet. Mine came back as a 9.

First timer here. The last 6 weeks have been crazy. Mammo, repeat mammo, ultrasound and then repeat ultrasound and Bx. Got the Dx on 9/26. Wasn't expecting it at all. Met with surgeon who I have great trust in (worked with him for years). Really calmed some fears and was so positive. Lumpectomy and SNBX went well. Then met with RO to discus to plan. She consulted with MO to get an oncotype test started. And that's where I still am. Waiting and wondering what it will show. I meet my MO for the first time today and will finally have a plan to start fighting this monster. So many questions on my note pad and in myhead. I'm going with good thoughts only!
